Yup, I had to get rid of XP due to business and related to it's being unsupported.
Bought a new computer. Complete with Win 8.1

I hate it. Hate it. HATE IT!!!!!!

Everything that felt comfortable is gone. I have not even wanted to load CS.
It took four hours to figure out and get into e-mail. Then I could not print.

Without the familiar start menu I am lost. This is crap. I am feeling like von Earlman.

Did I say that I hate it?

Probably why I cannot stand seeing some of the changes made to CS.

And, it even looks like I am being hit with all kinds of pop ups, spam, and malware.
This sucks! Big time.

Ugh!

Ed,

"Hate" is such a strong word.

Try "Depise, Abhor, Abominate, Detest, Execrate, or Loathe".

The new windows does take some gettin used to.

Jason, thanks for the link!

Cheers & Happy New Year!
Sorry things are so bad, Ed.

A few months ago I too, took the plunge as my XP computers were really bogging down all of the time however, I was already determined to stay away from Win8 (heard too many horror stories) so I bought directly from HP, a brand new customized 17" HP Notebook that was maxed out with 16 GB of Ram that included a back-lit keyboard. It came with Win7 Pro and I am very happy with the computer and Win7.

Maybe you can trade it in or cut your losses and sell it, and get something new that has Win7.
Yeah, just got a new Dell with Win7, is great except for some permission issues on external hard drives. When I get time, will figure that out as well, but 7 is very close to XP in setup, I'm able to use it without a big learning curve. And CS works on it too!
I have Win 8.1 (first 8.0), and fully agree the user interface is a joke. Having installed Classic Shell it is a different story, and in some ways improves from W7 even.
Well here's the rub. Whistle
Not only was it two days in hell, the computer is now at the shop letting the geeks get at removing all the virus' and malware that infected it. Crazy
I plugged my old machine back in and settled in like I am in a comfy chair. Farmer

I'm not sure if something happened when I downloaded Firefox or I tried to install my Trend Micro security.
Or, when I tried to search for drivers because the new machine would not recognize my new HP Deskjet printer (even when plugged in to USB). Whip

Jason, thanks for the link. I will be downloading that as soon as I get my machine back.

I hate to say it but I love the ease of XP more than the look of XP.

Microsoft really turned me off this time. Horse5

Thanks for your comments and support.

cheers

XP rocked. If I had known PCMatic works to support XP after the transition, I would have stayed with XP. My problem is I didn't see the commercial until after I got a new PC with win7, which I wasn't really thrilled with either. But every version I have ever had, I always go with the classic look as I cannot stand the stupid looking "kid" changes. It looks like a waste of time by people doing something to try and justify having a job.
Hello All,

I got windows 8.0 last July when I had to get a new computer (old one died). Initially hated windows 8.0. It was new, it was frustrating. Within a month I got used to it and don't have any issues. 8.1 was an improvement. I tried classic shell after I got used to 8.1 and was annoyed by that Whistle

So I guess it is just what you get used to.

The only issue I have with 8.1 is being asked for permission every time I modify a file on my C drive. Thumbs Down

Thanx!

Hawk
Hi Erik. Thanks. Been busy of late and just now found time to respond. Pipe2

First, I picked up my new computer on Friday and it is clean, ready to go. The "geeks" even downloaded the app to make the desktop look like XP/7. But, I have not had the time to set it up (with a good block of time to spend exclusively on getting around on the new rig).
I may have to wait until this Saturday. Hamster Wheel

Secondly, I am concerned about downloading the game and then trying to exchange PBEM files. The process looks different than what I am used to doing. We'll see where that goes? Twilight Zone

I've a more open mind, but am afraid I may not have the patience or the knowledge necessary to "get it" fully. I guess I am adverse to change? Farmer
