Hello...

Does anyone have, links to or versions of, the Help files (xxx.hlp) in a format other than the Microsoft .hlp?

As Windows 8.1 does not support the 'previous' version of the .hlp files, it is no longer possible to open any of the help type files when running a PzC game.

Or, does anyone know of a free downloadable program to convert .hlp file to PDF format?

I've already gone round and round with Microsoft on this, for about a month now, and they supposedly have a fix for it. Which of course does not work. Its been raised as an issue and they don't seem to have a solution to their solution. Never heard that one before eh?

First off, I believe all of the game updates include PDF versions of the help files in place o the original .hlp files. I just checked Smolensk for example and it has them. It is a separate download.

Also, I run Win 8.1, and following the instructions for getting the .hlp add on, I am able to open the old help system also. So it s possible, and I remember it worked very easily on my end at least. So don't take it personal but there you have 1 option that does have what you want and a second that should work :-).

Good luck.

Not sure that I even had to do this much work (I thought something downloaded automatically) but here is a link, probably to what you already tried, but may help others if needed:

As Rick has suggested, just download the newest HPS PDF update to whichever series you need the manual for.

For PzC it is currently Budapast. Just create a folder to unzip the file into. After doing so, you will have easy access to all the manuals available for that series and it will be the most up-to-date.
Hello...

Thanks for the quick response... got the PDF versions for all the PzC's.

The MS link is the one I've been going round and round with. The MS guys didn't have an answer, except to sell me a service contract! I've dl'd it and gave it a go... didn't help though... in some cases it crashes the program...not PzC's but others... oh, well.
