Full Version: Turn vs Phase Gameplay

Hi
In the Civil War series I just switched to phased gameplay because I think that defender needed some more punch, that will be achieved as the defensive fire is now done at full strength instead 1/2 strength, also the randomness of the fire will be removed as the optional rule automated defensive fire will make each unit fire at the nearest target.

Now I was thinking to do the same in the Napoleonic series, besides the pity that there is no automated defensive fire here and so the phased gameplay will take a lot mail exchanged to get a single turn done, I'm also worried about the skirmishers and melee.
A typical defense line would have the enemy battalion in line formation with skirmishers in the hex in front of them, now in turn play I just move an infantry battalion or a considerable amount of skirmishers next to his skirmishers and melee them hopefully successfully out of the way, after that another infantry battalion can get to the real defensive line and melee that one.
But that is not possible in phased gameplay because my movement is done before I get to the melee phased and when that begins I'm not able to move anymore.

So unlike the Civil War series here both mods of gameplay seem to have their drawbacks.
