JTS just released Waterloo Update v1.06.

The update includes:

Changes for Campaign Waterloo 1.06
- Added 2D terrain slopes to show elevations.
- Added movement sounds.

The update can be found here: http://johntillersoftware.com/Updates.html
If you bought your Waterloo from HPS don't use this update as apparently it only works with the JTS version. If you download and install to the HPS version it is going to ask for your serial number when you start up and you'll have to revert back to the HPS 1.04 version to get it to work.
Yes I have experienced this problem.

This patch is only for graphics and sounds. However, say for example we get significant engine changes we may be in a situation of having to rebuy the product. And this may well apply to all Tiller games not just Napoleonics. So potentially some serious ramifications.

And I gather those that do install the JTS 1.06 version have incompatibility issues with those that do not and retain the 1.04 HPS/Tiller version.
That is really silly, and this for nothing more that graphic and sound what are usually replaced by mods anyway, it could have at least be an engine change.
Just an action to drive people to buy JTS instead HPS?
I doubt that any old customer will rebuy as there is no reason to do expect that this may dived the player community in HPS 1.04b players and JTS 1.06 players for Waterloo and I guess they are not compatible.
This is the worst a company can do.

Will HPS do their own version of the Patch?

BTW it's already strange to see that JTS makes its Download Version as 1.05 for whatever reason although I doubt that it is any different from 1.04b that the last HPS patch.

Changes for Campaign Waterloo 1.05
- First John Tiller Software release.
Well it messes up one of my installs... now cant run it... great 1 week to have the CD and install game again.

If is only the graphic update not a great problem but at least he can release 2 files, the installer for Tiller versions and a zip (like old patches in HPS) for old versions... i have very clear i am not going to rebuy a game only to patch it.
You don't have to reinstall from scratch.

Just download the HPS 1.04b and reinstall it over JTS 1.06.
This worked fine for me.

Fwiw: Rich also posted that JT made some tweaks to the AI, although I doubt that Rich actually had time to do anything with the scenarios in the title -this would probably have some impact if someone were to design scenarios and then playtest them. The current scenarios wouldn't do anything markedly different - as they would have been left as is.

Graphics - yes there are some new hexside graphics in the JTS version, that even if you use the bmp files in other titles that have not been updated to call on these lines on the BMP file would not 'work' in the sense that the program would not call on the new locations. I was interested in how this worked by taking these and adding them to REN (no change) - it is what I expected to see happen -but, well... you sort of have to try it -just in case :).

If you have the HPS version, don't use the update from the JTS site, applying it will ask you for your registration code. This is something that you won't have.

As far as PBEM goes -as long as you have the current patches from each respective site (HPS or JTS) they should work together without any issue. A similar situation can be found with 1776.
Thanks for the idea, i dont think in re-patch.

Lets see how is the evolution in Nap serie... i dont lose my faith in see a peninsular title or titles... maybe serie needs some titles based in medium small actions and here Italy and Peninsula are perfect (but leave Italy to the end hehehe).
Andy's point is well taken.

I have all the HPS games and very much appreciate the continued support of the years -- including the retrofitting of nice features like mouse-wheel zoom into the older products.

I hope this doesn't betoken a shift in policy under which we'll need to purchase the JT versions to get this support.

Best,
