do i really need to get this upgrade to continue playing the games with others ???? if my opnt gets the upgrade, then does that mean i need to get the upgrade in order to continue that game.

at the moment i do not not have the JTSC 2.0, i have been running what everyone else was before this patch...

Good question. I figured to finish my games first before I update, but I don't know really.
No need to choose when you can have both! Leave 1.04 as-is and just install 2.00 to a parallel directory.

A clean 1.00 (original CD / digital download) first then followed by the 2.00 on top of that is our recommendation anyway.

Then, if you so choose, uninstall 1.04 at a later time.
Both PBEM players have to be on the same page, the same game version, because otherwise the PBEM file formats will differ, and the player with 1.04 won't be able to read the 2.00 player's turn.

If in doubt, finish your current game(s) with 1.04. And do a fresh install from original medium, with a different name (e.g., "John Tiller's Campaign Series2.00"), then run the 2.00 update installer on that new installation. With now two independent game installations, you will be all set for new PBEM contests, while still able to finish the old.

Ok, supposing both players have a 2.00 installation. There is an old 1.04 game sitting with one of the players.

Will the 1.04 game open in one of the players' 2.00, and then somehow convert? The thrust of the comments so far that both players must be patched to the same version implies that 2.00 will reject a 1.04 file. (But I am just speculating....)

In other words do we, who have 1.04 games going, have to have two versions of the game installed?

It should be the case that 2.00 will read 1.04 files, but not vice versa. So, yes, with 2.00, you should be able to read in 1.04 files, no problem. But then they get converted to the new 2.00 standard when saved anew. That is why your opponent needs to have 2.00 to proceed.

Having said that, better safe than sorry? Better to continue playing out your current game(s) with both players remaining on 1.04? I don't want players flaming me if something goes wrong. Flame

Agreed, but I have an opponent who has moved solely to 2.00. And I share the view of another poster that I don't want two installs of the same game. Hard drive capacity isn't an issue these days, but time/hassle are.

But thanks for the response, helpful.

A copy and paste of your 1.04 folder install would be all you need to do.
