The answer is no,once you install the game the disk is no longer needed.
Just stow it away,but don't go losing it as i have times before,arrg!

I have the pay version and the only feature I use of it is the extra save slots, I don't use the combat filters because I normally mess them up and end up destroyed. Walrus on the other hand has mastered the filters.
