Hello. I'm new here. (If this is not the right part of the forum, I hope the moderators will move this post to the correct one!). I love this game. I just played "Kutcher's Rag Tag Circus" five times, with AI playing the Allies because I wanted all the cool tanks. Anyhow, each time the AI used different tactics and the game had different results. I think that's just fantastic. I love the graphics too, closest thing to tabletop wargaming (which I also love). So I look forward to learning a lot here and maybe trying my hand at fighting a live opponent.

I have two questions I'm hoping you can help me with. First, I bought the Matrix Games edition recently. It won't run on my PC, which is using XP. "Wf.exe" encounters a problem in the first two or three turns and kicks out. Matrix tech support, while responsive, hasn't helped. I reinstalled dx for them, reinstalled the program for them, and reinstalled the updates. They're out of ideas. Any thoughts on that? It's strange, because during this process I found my old Talonsoft discs which work fine and are what I'm using now. Looking for patches is how I found this site, but I don't know if I should run any of them since the TS discs are working OK. I bought the Matrix set because I wanted more backup in case the TS discs get damaged and to extend the life of the game into new PCs.

The second issue is the scenarios here. Are there any tips on how to install and run them? Will they work with the Talonsoft discs?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

Welcome!! Do you have an anti-virus running at the same time? If you can, please give some info on video card you use, firewall/antivirus, anything you can think of. Most times it is just something weird!

Scenario's most likely won't work with the TS disks, as there are new units and capabilities not available in the old system. Hang in there, we will do our best to get you up and running!! I have XP Pro as well, do you have SP3?

Warhorse, thanks! I have PC Tools antivirus, but I shut it down before installing and running the program. I'm not sure what kind of video card I have and I don't know what SP3 is.

I believe SP3 is "Service Pack 3" which is a Windows XP update.

If you go to "My Computer" and in System Tasks click "View System Information" it tells you which (if any) Service Packs your version of XP is running. Wink
Which version update did you download from Matrix?
Is your HD partitioned?
It could be a registry error.

Jason maybe able to help you along in this.

cheers

Welcome to the Blitz!

Need to know more about your computer. How much RAM? Type of video card, how much free space is left of the hard drive.

The fact that WF opens and plays a few turns is worrisome. Do you have issues with any other programs, such as Microsoft Office programs? Since Matrix had you uninstall/reinstall, I'm doubting it's a software issue. Looking more like hardware. Heat buildup could cause this, try opening the computer case and vacuuming it, or put a fan near the rear vents.

This link will show you how to access your event log in Windows XP. Next time the game crashes, open the event log and see what the error is. Copy the error and do a google search for it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2bsHLxJ6ko

Your video card is probably a Radeon or NVIDIA or one of their knockoffs. If you can't figure out what you have, try going to their sites and having their autoscans check for you video card. If it's found see if there is a more current driver. If so, follow their instructions for updating your driver.

Sound cards can be an issue as well.

Lastly, try booting in safe mode by restarting your computer and hitting the "F8" key repeatedly until a black screen appears with menus. Arrow down key to "Start in Safe Mode" or "Start in Safe Mode with Networking" and continue the boot with either of those selected (the latter will give you internet access if you want it). If a window pops up asking if you meant to start in safe mode, just click OK. See if the game plays. If it does, play it for awhile doing as much stuff as you can to make it crash. If it doesn't crash, the issue is a driver issue.

Let us know how you make out.
