Full Version: Question about Org Mapping Files

I was looking at the campaign editor manual for FIW, which discusses an Org Mapping file that tells the program where to transfer updated OOB data for subsequent battles. The doc further states, “To learn more about Org Mapping Files, you should review the org mapping files included with the game.” I’ve got four of the campaign series (FIW, Eckhmuhl, Waterloo, and Jena), but I can’t find examples, and Google doesn’t yield anything. Either the Org Maps have been outdated by updates, or no one is making campaigns that use them.

Any advice or new info on these?

Thanks in advance
EoW
Org mapping is a pain in the behind, most of us don't do it, BUT we should. By org mapping we could have dynamic armies that change structure from battle to battle.

In the campaign editor you will find the only real explanation (if I remember correctly.) Basically, each unit & leader is given a number for the program to use in a bte/cpf file.

You can ask either the campaign editor or battle editor to make an org file of any oob file. So if you want to use some or all the units of an army in a different structure get the program to show the org numbers for each oob file, then you can create an org file by telling the program where the unit started (1st oob) and where it moved to (2nd oob.) i.e. first rifle company in 1st oob file is 1.1.1.1.1 in the second oob file you transfer it to another brigade so it looks like 1.1.1.2.1 .

Hopefully you get the idea.

Like I said, its a pain to do, but we really should take the time to do it, so we can put together a more realistic army in our campaigns showing how they change to the stresses of campaigning.

Good Luck! al
Okay, in the scenario editor under the file tab you'll see "write OB ID's to file..." if you select that in the Getting Started scenario you'll get the following txt file (formatting lost in thread posting, sorry)

So you can see the unique numbers each leader/unit gets. If you wanted to move "2.7.3 indigènes guerriers" from the French army to the Britsh army you can do that by making a second oob file. Now if you wanted any losses they suffered as French allies to follow them you would do an OB ID txt file on the second oob file. Since you probably just added the indians to the bottom of the British army list they would, ironically, remain the 7th group, so thier number would be 1.7.3.

This change is what you would tell the .org file about so it could transfer their losses with them as they changed alliances.

Campaign Editor word doc talks about the .org file format on page 7. It is covered there very clearly so, I'll stop confusing everyone now. ;-) al
Good reply Al!
