Hi

I'm more or less a total newb to the Tiller games having spent most of my time playing Combat Mission, i'm after a smallish game of Danube Front '85 to cut my teeth on.

I've no idea what special rules or scenarios are best for learning but i'm happy to discuss anything or play either side....after all we all want something thats fun and challenging also. Helmet Wink

Hope to chat soon.

Make sure to check out the "Guidelines on which Optional rules to use and articles detailing their effects", which can be found in the "Important Threads" section located here: https://www.theblitz.club/message_boards...?tid=47923

It is by far the best explanation of all of the option rules and easily explains how they can affect your game(s).

In case you are interested there is a super good art map called MapMod which will make your Danube Front '85 game look totally different.

You can find the mod here: http://mapmod.hist-sdc.com/modern.htm

VolcanoMan has a really nice unit art mod and alt scenarios for DF85.
Once you register, you can easily access them here: http://www.volcanomods.com/index.php

Feel free to post any game questions. I am 100% sure they will be answered. :)

Good Luck!

Thanks mate, i just finished the tutorial mission using those mods.....

...have to say they improve it greatly. Now maybe i can mess with the sounds a little? Big Grin

There's a zip file somewhere for the WWII campaign series with movement sounds. Not sure if there's one for the modern campaigns. Looking at this I'm tempted to get a modern campaign game.
I would suggest:

-850610_06a: The Eaglehorse at Bad Kissingen (HTH)
-850610_09a: Tale of Two Cities (HTH)
-850610_12a: The Lull before the Storm (HTH)

These are all small early scenarios, focusing on an outnumbered NATO trying to delay the initial WAPA attack.

-850610_10sa: Operation Stoss: The Battle for Berlin (HTH)
-850610_11sa: Swatting Flies in the South (HTH)

These are "last stand" type scenarios, where NATO/Austria will likely not prevail and will take heavy losses, but might still win despite this. These scenarios are also good for learning how the Explicit Supply system works. They are slightly longer than the ones mentioned above, but the forces deployed are still limited (1-2 division equivalents on each side)

If you are still looking for an opponent, I would be up for one of the above scenarios.

Hello JDR Dragoon

Thanks for the help, sure i'd like to play a game. How about

-850610_06a: The Eaglehorse at Bad Kissingen (HTH)

It sounds rather interesting from the briefing info and not a monster to finish either. What side would you like to play and what particular rules would you like to use?

Sounds fine.

I have played this scenario once before as NATO (and won), but I do believe that it is possible for WAPA to win. I do believe that the WAPA side is more forgiving to play (more and larger units and thus slightly more room for error) than NATO, who only have to lose a couple of units before he is in deep trouble. The NATO player also needs to know how to conduct a fighting withdrawal, so for that reason it might be best if you played WAPA (if you want to, we can always change side afterwards so you can get a crack at defending)

I would suggest the following Optional Rules:

-Recon Spotting
-Virtual Supply Trucks
-Night Fatigue
-Programmed Weather (not really that important, since the scenario lasts for only two days, but useful for learning to remember to check next days forecast when you get to playing longer scenarios)
-Blocking Helicopter Elimination (again, not really important for this scenario, since there is only one helicopter counter, but usually a staple optional rule in more helicopter-rich games)
-Counterbattery fire
-Limited Air Recon.
-Quality Fatigue Modifier

Following House Rules:

-No more than 2 artillery delivered minefields next to each other (not really important for this scenario due to the low number of mones, but the larger scenarios make it possible to create a literal "sea" of mines).

-No use of flying helicopters (or airmobile infanry in flight mode) to block roads by occupying the hexes (again, only 1 helicopter counter in this scenario, so not really important, but in larger scenarios it will be)

-No use of units, especially helicopters, to dance back and forth between hexes (or make a run across the frontline) in order to draw out opportunity fire.
That all sounds fine to me, my practical knowledge of the optional rules is zero so it will be nice to try them out and see their effects on gameplay. I'm more than happy to play WAPA first then like you say we can mirror the game later if we want. Do i need to setup the game first or would you like too? I'm not too sure how this game handles multiplayer setup!
