Hi!
I would like to know if anyone could give me realistic settings. For example searching should be on 100, hitting 100 and so forth.

Hi Zombie
There's a great debate as to what is 'realistic' with this game.
I am afraid there are no easy answers for you.
Each player will have preferences that they like to play with.

I tend to be fairly standard (when I play, which is rare now days) and have all settings at 100%, country training on, breakdowns on, ammo limits on etc...all things that force you to play a harder game.
I think most guys would agree with that set up.

However, depending on whom you are playing and what type of battle, often players will standardise the country training to make the forces more even perhaps.

Also, depending on the player, some people will raise the searching %, or lower the hit %, etc to get a more difficult battle...no so much 'one shot - one kill' action which can get a little tedious.

The main stuff that;s always under debate, and always worth a conversation with your oppo before a battle, is to do with arty rules and z-fire (indirect).
Many will have a limit on 5 of points spent on arty, or a rule as to not starting arty plots until turn x. Also there may be limits on use of ammo resupply, or MRLS type units...or calibre sizes depending on size of force...the list goes on.
Weasel has a good rule idea based on purchase of FOO units giving you a certain number of 'shoots' per turn. Quite realistic IMO.

Z-fire can make or break a game for me, and some player over use it...aothers think that is fair enough. Definitly worth a conversation.

Anyway, hope that helps some.

I have two suggestions for you:

1. Low Carnage Settings

The following was designed for SPWaW Enhanced (but can be adjusted to fit WinSP) and was posted here:

http://enhanced.freeforums.org/adding-lo...-t616.html

Command and Control ON
Auto Rally OFF
Spotting Set to 90
Hitting Set to 80
Rout/Rally Set to 100
Tank Toughness Set to 110
Infantry Toughness Set to 150
Artillery v Soft Set to 180
Artillery v Hard Set to 130
Spec Op Fire Set to 150*

* settings between 125 and 150 Recommended.

This is the world of Low Carnage. Like Command and Control it makes for a very different game.
If you have not tried it you need to. These settings make the game play in a manner that many
of us find more compelling. While the name Low Carnage started life as a concept that would
reduce the absolute carnage seen in many games with both sides reduced to nothing by the end
of a battle it has evolved to the point that it might better be called Slow Carnage. We never
were able to find a way to force players not to destroy the forces they controlled in a single two
hour battle. What we did find was a group of settings that just simply made the game more
enjoyable. The settings listed above alter the feel and play of the game, it makes for a slower and
more realistic feel of battle. While things can still happen quickly in a game to turn the tide of battle
the little green and gray men on the battle field now put up a bit more of a fight and you the
commander of those forces must now use what are best described as the proper methods of
conducting warfare. You will need to focus more on suppressing the units you want to see destroyed
and you will need to get out your combined arms training and use those tools to do it.

The settings have been tested and retested in many games and they work just as advertised.
your going to see a game that plays out a bit slower with both sides needing to be more careful
in bringing the right units to the fight. You will no longer be able to approach an Infantry squad
with a squad of your own and after a turn of shooting at it destroy it with out a fight. They will
fight you, they will run before they allow you to slaughter them outright. It is going to take more
ammunition and more time to get them to leave the fighting positions and run for the rear area.

If your looking for more of a challenge in your games this is the way to get it. Players who have
used these settings to play the AI and those playing human players both have reported that the
game seems to be making them work harder to win the battle. They actually have a good fight
which they have to earn a victory. Its no longer a simple thing to defeat your opponent. This is
what we wanted to see and hear from players.

2. Weather Effects

You can also adjust:

Spotting
Hitting
Rout/Rally
Visibilty

depending on the weather and time of day you are trying to simulate.

I will attach a spreadsheet with adjustment suggestions for various lighting/weather.

Thank you so much for your answers:)
To Walrus: You just use standard settings, is this right?
To Cross: I will try these settings on SPww2, and report back later.

Just came across this. Myself and Vesku hate the standard settings for SPMBT/SPWW2 and through trial and error (lots of testing) we came up with what we thought most seemed realistic (we were very tired of super infantry who were routed suddenly jumping up and wiping out tanks etc)

Searching: 100
Hitting: 100
Rout/Rally: 100
Troop Q: default (or whatever you want)
Tank Toughness: 110-130 (harder to kill by infantry)
Infantry Toughness: 60 (easier for tanks, heavy weapons and MGs to kill)
Artillery Effectiveness: 50-70 (although 100 is probably more realistic arty just dominates the fight too much and takes away from the tactics)

You may also want to download and use the FOO rule too, in the documents section.

I have ALWAYS hated how infantry is super tough in the game, especially when only a couple of men out of a squad are left and yet hold off an entire tank company. Or the routed crew that jumps on top of a passing AFV and kills it. GRRRR. All reasons I don't play SP anymore.

Yea I agree infantry is to strong in sp, I mean ww2 was the battle of tanks. I forgot to mention that I just play single player at the moment, testing and practicing. What is your favourite game since you don`t play sp anymore?

I now play combat mission, even against the AI you can get your butt kicked (and infantry are a tank's supper)
Hello Guys,

wow - so many discussions have taken place on this subject over the years since I found the blitz...

interesting that cross suggested increasing the infantry toughness for SPWAW and Weasel suggests reducing the toughness..

for my two cents, I think the truth lies somewhere in between, and also the morale factor in both games have a huge impact.. that's why those troops will rally back at times and make a nuisance for the opposition..

JP and I have farted around with some of this also, and what we have found is that simply turning 'country-training' off does not 'equalize' the troops in play.. it's entirely possible to end up (and it has) with Runssians fighting UK with troops that have '75' experience each, yet Russians get hammered by the Brits as the Russian troops won't rally easily under fire, or will break quickly allowing the Brits to pursue and destroy almost at will..

why? Experience may be equal, but then the brits have a base rallye value of 75, and the russian 60.. then the 'experience' equality doesn't stand the test..

We figured a way to fix it..

you have to massage the 'rout/rallye' values also..

the adjustment works in a simple way.. in this case where one side has a morale of 75, and the other 60.. adjust the route/rally value for the '75' player to 80%.. which reduces the base to 60

or increase the 60 player by 125% which gives you 75..

or - find what ever value you want to use and do the math to adjust things..

makes a difference (and JP is now less frustrated with his beloved Russians) :)

Also.. one last comment.. SP is a game, not a simulation.. and it's getting dated

SPCAMO has brought the game a huge leap forwards with their continuing efforts at fine tuning the game.. for those of that have enjoyed their efforts over the past decade.. they truly have accomplished miracles..

as with all games, it will never satisfy everybody's personal preferences.. they are for us to enjoy..

so hat's off to all of you who enjoy a good game, and making friends from all over the world..

For me, an older guy that cut his teeth on games that came out of a box, took a couple of hours to set up, then screamed at that cat when it walked across the game boards..

the favorite was 'squad leader'.. well.. SP for me is still the best..

Regards to all

Greybeard
I have to say that I so far like Weasel setting best with less strong infantry and harder to kill tanks, I just got feed up with tanks being destroyed by some sniper, sometimes I wonder why I buy tanks.

I agree it is a game, which makes me wonder all the more why Shrapnel has posts saying it is the most realistic tactical simulation (their articles, not my words). I find CM more realistic then SP, I just had a T34 ignore my orders and charge out into an open field in front of an 88 instead of hiding behind a building like I told him too. Got to love it.
