Howdy,

Anyone have experience using ADC II? I was curious about how the LOS feature works.
I gather it is an on demand request, but the example with elevation and terrain height looks pretty cool.

:drink:

Step on up, I'm buying.
One thing that it is fair to point out about ADC 2 is that it came out a fairly long time ago - before Vassal, Sun Tzu, and Cyberboard -so it is my guess that those 3 programs have more advanced features.

That being said, while I have no specifics (read that to mean no idea at all what stage of development this is in), that HPS is working on an ADC 3.0 -of which some elements are found in the map editing software of Tigers Unleashed. I am not suggesting that anyone buy a title just for that- but if you are interested in reading what there is on an aspect reportedly from that PBEM Facilitator's program -have a look at some of the documentation from that game:

http://hist-sdc.com/spotlights/hps_tigers_unleashed.php

Pick the 2nd tab: "TSS Series Documentats" and I believe it is in the User Manual (although it has been awhile since I've looked).

___

Disclaimer- I got the disk for ADC 2 - but don't claim to be familiar with it... for that matter I also have a 3.5 in floppy of ADC 1 ...

Thanks stevo
getting a little fried on on all of the board game options.
Well, using maptools so far with thw fng.
I guess all this would be circumvented by having a squad batlles map editor. :-)
I've seen maps created for sb. Damned if if I can figure out how ;-)

What can I tell you... I don't have access to any map editor for any of those series fwiw. I do know some of the guys that do but that is it.

I have the feeling though that I might get to work on some modules when the time comes (boardgame modules). Or I suppose the more accurate manner of phrasing things is that if asked to do so I'd probably put my hand up for it (the SPW material.)... but that is a ways down the track.

On another semi-related note: I have the idea that I would love to see if I can do a screenshot of the GMT East Front titles' maps. . . maybe someday I might get the time. :) Which would require using Vassal and Cyberboard modules for the relevant titles.

Don't let the intial RPG flare of Map Tools put you off. It has a lot of good features and can be hex oriented. You can load your own graphics and it would easily be large enough for any sized board. Same with the counters. Under the ir "token" layer, they can hold a lot of info and be exact replicas of the board game pieces. Simple (real time) line of site. Eleveations are not supported at the time however, but they are very active in developing it. Latest version is set for the upcoming Java 7 release.

I'd say it is more about time and previous availability of most of the titles from a company for which I do some work -is probably the biggest factor. However I was thinking if the business model allows for it with DG and SPW (it might not- so I don't want to misrepresent things -but it had in the past with ADC 2.0), I'd be in a position to work with the new product in order to (hopefully) generate some content for SDC and SPWGame at the same time ... I guess all that is a little further down the track however -as I know SPW is full on involved with getting the WWI tie-it-all-together title out the door sometime in the middle of this year (to the best of my unofficial estimation). . . anyways, I suppose the point is -we'll see what happens once something happens. ;)
