How does one report a Campaign? Do we report every engagement?
Which game series are you referring to: BG or HPS/JTS?
JT's Campaign ______________ series, be it Campaign Eckmuhl or Campaign Gettysburg.
Interesting question - I've recorded mine as individual games as the campaign tree can branch off in any direction so no two campaigns from the same game are likely to be the same in terms of size. Of course, trying to work out which exact scenario you are playing within the tree can be tricky and the HPS numbering system is not user friendly.

Even this is problematic. This is from my email to my campaign opponent:

Liebchen Wrote: [ -> ]When I tried to enter our round 2 game, which was essentially Approaching Abensberg, I realized that in the game there is an 03a_eckmuhl.scn and an 03h_eckmuhl.scn, which I assume are an AI game and an HTH game, respectively, although I can't verify that. But neither of these is the game that we played. (The 02 stand-alone scenarios in the game are about Teugn-Hausn.)

The game that we played had variables by virtue of it being part of a campaign. They have variable oobs, setups, and objectives, depending on how things go, right, and what choices we make? So I looked and there are a number of variants. As it turns out, we played either scenario Abens2aR.scn (French heading for Ratisbon) or Abens2aL.scn (French heading for Landshut).

I don't know how much difference there is between the 03a & 03h scenarios and the 2aR & 2aL scenarios.

Besides, since the Blitz keeps statistics on the scenarios, it seems wrong to record our game as the generic scenarios.

As curious as I am what your overall disposition is, I don't know if I want to come out and ask you, rather than suss it out during the course of play. So I'm not sure what game to report for round two, and probably won't for round three.

So, I thought that maybe this would help explain the dilemma behind my question.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to handle this?
I understand your problem. It would help greatly if the scenario number was listed at the top/bottom of the game when you open it. I thought this some time ago so will ask Rich Hamilton if this is a simple change to make or not.

All I can say is that after a couple of turns you should be able to work out which of the campaign scenario options you and the opponent have selected and which specific scenario you are playing, by consulting the campaign tree and opening up a couple of possible alternative scenarios. A pain and not especially easy. You have at least narrowed it down to 2 options and should be able to nail it after a few turns by comparison of your positions with those 2 scenarios.

That's why folks fudge the issue and go for the 'best fit' option. But I agree entirely that with the Blitz database it's important that the exact scenario be identified.

the suffix a and h mean alternate and historical.
Yes, I would easily agree with you guys in that the some of the HPS titles are not labeled as easily as they could be.

Because of this issue, I approached Bill Peters before Leipzig was released and asked him if it was possible to name and label the scenarios as simple as possible and I provided him with examples of scenarios from older released titles that easily showed how confusing it is when trying to enter a new scenario on the data base, let alone, trying to figure out exactly which scenario you actually played so you could record the correct one on the ladder.

For those of you who own Leipzig, you may have noticed that the naming and labeling of the scenarios was well planned out and from what I saw when I was loading up all of the scenarios on to the data base, there appears to be no possibility of any confusion in reporting those scenarios on our ladder.

So in the future, if you guys are having a difficult time trying to figure out which scenario you exactly played, please contact me and I will help you figure it out. It is alot easier on all parties if I am contacted before you report your game, instead of afterward.

As for bonus points for reporting completion of a PBEM campaign game, I did some asking around and it appears that the Blitz did have a procedure in place to award a bonus for reported campaign games, which is located here.

https://www.theblitz.club/rules_of_engag...ing/rid=12

Unfortunately, since we edited and increased the SM chart from 6 to now be up to 10, the bonus calculations can not be used.

So to make it as simple and easy on everyone, we will continue to award a bonus. When you finish playing a Black Powder campaign game and you notify me, I will award both you and your opponent a 25 point Campaign Bonus.:)
