Somewhere out there is a man with the secret knowledge of how to take stuff from one map environment and put it in another. I apologise for having lost your contact details, but if still there would you advise?. I would like to feed some WF features into RS, if possible.

It is possible to copy blocks of code from one game to the other with a text editor. However it is far from easy and I have only done it with transferring "escarpments" from WF to EF. I don't know if there is another, more simple method.
Hi.

It is possible you have some troubles if the terrain feautures you want to transfer are not common among both versions WF and RS. I think you must copy and paste these WF terrain features (bmp files) in the RS first.

Interestingly, the desert terrain features are included in both WF AND RS. Why would that be, if there seems no way to activate them? I have found the relevant files.....dunes are a hexside feature...DesSandDune 3d, 4d,5d.......and for the small scale they are included in DesSides1d, 2d.

So the stuff is there...how to get it onto the map?

The ability to create maps from all regions was included in the 1.03 UPDATE, I believe.

The limitation is that you cannot use the graphics from one map type (northwest europe) in another map type (desert).

You can get around it using some text editing. I believe Mike (aka Warhorse) would be the one to contact about how to do it.

Whew, it's been a looong time since I messed with the map files. Years ago I was transferring maps from EF-WF, vice-versa, etc. I've taken WF maps and entered them into DG. Also EF into DG. Can you kindly let me know what it is you are trying to do, I might be of assistance? It involves making a comparison of all the terrain codes of each game, then isolating the block of text in the map files and manually switching the code letters. Can be very triicky if there are like letters etc., that get replaced opposite each other. It is a time consuming task sometimes. When I was into it, I had it down to an hour or less to do a very large map created randomely in one game, and convert it to another, ie DG. It seems the road/sides and rivers etc. are usually the same code across the board, the problem is that the code is changed EACH map so, you can't just make a simple algorithm as it were!!!! Let me know, might not be able to help, but maybe, who knows?!

EDIT: Dang Jason, you beat me at my post!!!

You are he, Warhorse, and VMT your prompt reply. We have corresponded in the past in connection with one of my whims. This time, it is JTCS-RS....... a series of scens on the Khalkhin Gol battles of summer 1939. I am using the Temperate Zone terrain, which is fine, as the terrain is undulating open grassy steppe, with sandy patches. The basic open button is fine, the beach button for the sand is adequate, but sand dunes were used as cover. These are not available in the temperate zone. What I seek is a mod, acceptable to the club, which would add dunes---a hexside feature-----with a button at the top ( there is space). I could then put dune lines on the map. This mod would need to be available to anyone wanting to download from the scen dB and play it.
Thanks for your interest. My email .... [email protected]
