Cheers Dave,
Thanks for your comments, valuable feedback is always appreciated to improve this and the other scenarios I am working with. I will try to answer questions as they come up - keep posting them
Map I have access to excellent 1:20K and 1:100K digitalised maps from the time, with Google Earth this map presents a very realistic view of how it was at the time. The terrain is a bit of a pain for Russian player, but as the description says, the Finns were not expecting a major attack on this area. It does offer a few channels for advance, and given how one chooses to distribute the forces the Russian player should have a few options in front of him.
Fixed units ...and they will not be released either. The 53rd Infantry regiment was spread out very thin, they were responsible for manning some 12 km of defense line, meaning the regiment itself did not have any internal reserves available at all. After some thinking, I decided to add III/IR53 to map as a fixed, to prevent the Russian player from executing a sneaky flanking manouver over the (quite difficult terrain) left flank of defending units.
Under no circumstances were they allowed to leave the defensive lines empty, therefore they remain fixed... I agree fixed units are not the way to go.
I/IR 48 was the only reserve initially available to 3.D, and are available from the beginning.
Defensive structures vs EA This is a very nice scenario to have a chance to practice the use of EA. I was amazed how quickly the lines were breached against a player who was good with it. Hammer the defence, and have several EAs against the hex during the same turn, and you will be surprised. Pleasantly, as a Russian player, and maybe not so pleasantly as the opposiotion :)
Victory conditions I believe I need to add a few turns to this scenario. Once you reach the limits of the scenario, let me know, I can extend it a bit (25 should be about right?) on a fly, without a need for a restart.
Exit hexes are all around, they are a far off, all of them are not reachable. Given how mobile the Russian forces are, I added them all as to make it a bit more difficult and confusing to Finnish player.
I will not give any hints and tips as how to approach this one, the description gives some ideas, let me know how it ends. I hope you enjoy it!
