I am currently in the mkt for a new computer. My current desktop is running with Windows XP and I have no problems running our games. Can anyone provide info on what programs to stay away from and which ones work well?

To start with, go for a BIG hd screen! :)
You probably won't find a computer with XP, more than likely Windows 7 will be what's available (not including Macs). Don't get Vista unless it's a phenominal computer deal and has it preloaded. Even then I'd upgrade it to Windows 7.

Most big software products will run, and of course Matrix (not Talonsoft). The lesser known add-ons and freebies we tend to collect over time may or may not. Hard to say.

There's a compatibility tester for Windows 7 (see link below). It's to test whether your computer can handle an upgrade, but I believe it will tell you whether the programs that you have currently will run without needing to upgrade/replace them:

Hope that helps.

I have bought several beefy Dell PCs that are either refurb, scratch & dent, or "previously ordered new" -- all for quite a bit less than normal price with a warranty and with free shiping. Dell has an outlet website. To use it, go to the URL below and notice on the left side of the screen lots of categories and checkboxes to filter the results. There is a little "clear" link at the top of that section the will allow you to start from scratch. I recommend clearing then choose all three of the categories I listed above, then the page will post back to pull all machines. Then use the dropdown to sort by Price: low to high. Once you get a feel for what is out there, you can use other checkboxes to refine your search by operating system or any other of the components. The site used to be more concise and readable, now it shows you all the machines and specs right up front.

If that link gives you any trouble, you can just go to the root of Home PCs and navigate from there:
