Why would I fight a DEI scen?:

1. The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor and I knew not what was to come.
2. I was in North Borneo, on business, and they were beheading the white cats that they found.
3. The world was falling down about me.
4. The Germans were overrunning Russia, with tanks.
5. I was an Indonesian activist.
6. I am Japanese.
7. I am Dutch.

When you play the Dutch...give the Nipper only enough to eat. These scens can be won by the Allies. I see everyone loosing...'cause they try to muscle the Japanese. The scens are weighted so that the Dutch can win. Much guile is needed though (one might be refrained from hinting at "al-Quaida" tactics", by God, as if they were the ones that invented them. [/b]

Cheers

Curt:

I'm skeptical that the Dutch forces can achieve a "victory."

So... I would like you to "demonstrate" to me how the Dutch can win. :eek1:

If you are available... I would like to challenge you to one of your RS scenarios The Fall of Tarakan

I'll take the Japanese. All optional rules = ON except EA and VV.

I sent you a separate email too.

Look forward to your reply Curt! cheers
As someone who has played a number of Curt's DEI scenarios in the last year or two (part of a ongoing RS cycle with Hawk), many of these scenarios are winnable by the Allies even if the battles they represent were hopeless.

Curt does a good job at tweaking victory conditions, map size, and # of turns to make the Japanese sweat these out. I'd say that in Curt's DEI scenarios, we're about even in the win-loss count and we've had a bunch of draws. There's been a few blowouts, but not too many.

They might not be everyone's cup-of-tea (many/most are infantry heavy with little artillery and few tanks/vehicles), but overall they are fairly balanced, on average.

Hey Mike:

I've not received a reply from Curt yet... so I'll "open up" my offer to play you in The Fall of Tarakan too!

So... first person (Curt or Mike) to repond "yes" to me gets the game! :eek1:

My email: mikewest455 (at) gmail.com

I've already completed the Japanese Turn #1 and waiting for a Dutch opponent to step up to the plate. :smoke:
It would seem to me that these scns are better balanced for play with EA "on". Just guessing as I played a couple against Hawk in 2008. These games would not have been so close when played with EA "off".

Huib:

I understand... and would agree that having EA = ON will benefit the defending force. However; Curt, who is the DEI scenario designer, states in his original post that the "The scens are weighted so that the Dutch can win" ... Mike Abberton states that "...overall they [scenarios] are fairly balanced, on average" ... and The Fall of Tarakan scenario description does not recommend the use of any optional rules (including EA)... so my assumption is that players can utilize any optional rules of their choice... and the scenario would still maintain it's balance? :chin:

So... I'm simply asking for a PBeM game so that I can see for myself how the Dutch can achieve a victory? :cool2:
Mike and I have played them all with EA on. It helps the Allies a ton.

I have played many of the DEI scenarios back in the CS days and the Allies get a beating with no EA.

Much more challange for the Japnese with EA on.

Challenging either way for the Allies.

Thanx!

Hawk
Cheers,

Out of town, back up in Pensacola, with the new laptop, no CS on it yet.
As far as I'm concerned...EA is the best thing since buttons. The scens as "reconfigured", were completed for Jason's lastest patch. We talked. I did not configure the intros to describe any playing style...but EA is the way to go, for sure.

Tarakan can be won by the Dutch. If I recall, Hawk and I had a real hullaballoo (me as Dutch) without EA, by the way. Love that scen.

Dutch: sit in the woods; shut off op fire; use AC's to block the road and ambush like six sad sisters. Slow's the Japanese down, once they get stung a few times.

It can be one, both ways. EA is the rat's ass.

Cheers
Curt
By the by..,"Ambon" is the real challenge. It's long and it's tough. As the Dutch: Don't think out of the box...destroy it. You just might win...and have no breath left. It could be a rush.

Cheers
Curt
Gents: :smoke:

Curt and others... thank you for your replies. :)

You have confirmed what I had suspected concerning the DEI scenarios... so I withdraw my challenge to play The Fall of Tarakan.

I'm not terribly suprised that nobody was eager to play the Dutch? :chin:

I must admit, that this is 100% true. Curt kicked the crap out of me.

I took most of the objectives but at a terrible price.

He won a hard fought victory.

It is a fun scenario for sure!

Thanx!
