Don't want to restart my turn.

Here's what I'm dealing with:

Any ideas, I'm running Vista 64. Played many games on this install of Vista.

Anything I can do with the video to refresh?
Need some more details I think. Is it the first turn (if custom did you put the scenario files in the WF or EF directory)? Is the game file in the right place (west front in the WF directory, EF in the EF)? Did it start the turn OK and then just freeze (alt-tab to your desktop, then right click on the desktop somewhere and "refresh")?

Second turn I had already made moves. I left for the day, (my computer won't shut off unless I do so) came back, there was an error that had popped up when my wife tried to print something over the network that was it. The screen was black when I moved the mouse and the monitor kicked back on.

I was able to save and start the game again, just annoying, would like to figure out how to fix or how to prevent.
Hi Mark,

That doesn't sound like a game problem, but a computer problem. Since you don't turn off the PC it might have been caused by your computer going into hibernation. Also, Vista is a memory hog, so depending on how much RAM your computer has and how high-end your video card is, you might have just used up your RAM. Alt-Tab into another program and then alt-tabbing back might have worked, but saving and restarting the game is sometimes all you can do. A computer restart would be even better. There's probably a ton of processes running in the background eating up memory.

One thing you can try that might help is to update your video card driver to the latest. If you got your computer when Vista first came out, the early driver might have a bug in it that was later fixed. If you want to try that and need help doing this let me know.

One thing to do would be to just save as often as you feel necessary given the hardware and the working environment (kids, pets, electricity surges) you have.

If you need to leave, save the file, close the program. Repeat as often as necessary :)

I save quite often myself, for the given reasons. I've mentionet that to my opponents, and assume that those that continue to play with me trust that there is a reason for the Games Saved pop up window.

I mean, if that feature was the reason why you don't save as often as you would, say, when you type a letter with Microsoft Word.

Rebooting often makes Windows more robust, as the background prosecesses do not get a change to hog all the reseources, as Dave mentioned above.

EDIT: Come to think of it, I had exactly the same issue with W764bit when using Arkady's early 64bit beta Unit Viewer. When having the game up, and then opening up the Unit Viewer, my game window went black and there was nothing I could do. Not anymore, with the latest Unit Viewer. I am not very good at these things. Go figure... Maybe the symptoms are telling something? Changing the screen resolution? Changing the screen refresh rate?

There was an earlier thread where Jason suggested some ideas to those who have an issue with Map editor on 64 bit systems... I will try to look that thread up...

EDIT2: This one. Does it help? https://www.theblitz.club/message_boards...#pid330595
Are your drivers up to date?

When I played CMAK or CMBB last year, the screen would be half black and half game. I had to minimize the game then click on the game icon in the toolbar. This would correct the problem. When I started a another scenario I had to repeat the process.

This year one of the graphics driver updates fix the problem.

It is a computer issue. Simply save the scenario and then exit. When you go to play the scenario again you will see a regular screen.

cheers
