I'm starting an El Alamein scenario using explicit supply. As the Allied player I have quite a few supply depots dotting the map as well as supply vehicles. However, I am unclear what role these supply depots play in the game.

For instance, assuming I can I draw supply from them, what is their supply radius? What benefits does the Axis player gain from capturing them in terms of supply and VPs? How do they affect Allied strategy (ie. are they worth defending)?

Any thoughts on this are much appreciated. Cheers.

P.S. Any other tips for fighting the Hun in the desert would be also appreciated.
Check the Users Manual. There is an entire section on explicit supply there for EA 42.

Supply depots work just like supply truck and wagons except they are immobile. You will have to move units to them to be supplied.

Ranges of depots are viewed by right clicking the supply depot counter in the game.

Capture by the enemy is the same as for mobile supply, 1/2 of the existing supply is lost at the time of capture.

Also if you are in range of a static supply dump keep you truck supply units in T mode as then supply has to be drawn from the dump which will keep your mobile truck units up to strength.

I suspect that some players are unaware that vehicle breakdown effects supply truck units, so don't move them unless you have to and then maybe only 2/3 of their MP allowance?

If you are playing the stock scenarios then assaulting small Axis tank units with infantry is a valid way of running up their fatigue, however if you are playing the Alt scenarios (which use the alt assault opt rule) then this tactic is not as useful.
Very helpful information here! Thanks Dog Soldier and Foul!
Thanks for the tips, guys.
