Greetings gents,

Have two more scenarios I need to do some testing on. One has been pretty well tested and needs now to be tweaked (VPs, VP location, etc...). The other is still in need of general testing and feedback.

The first is 1943 mobile warfare west of Kharkov during the Russian Kursk counteroffensive; three days fighting around Bogudokov. The second, is Guderian's drive to jump the Dnieper south of Orsha in July 1941. If you're good at playing the Germans or Russians later in the war, this might be a challenge as both armies have some substantial differences at this point from their later selves. If you're interested, please drop me a line. I can play against some of the testers and of course you would be free to play against each other as well. In particular, please commit to providing feedback, good or bad; it's the only way we can improve the breed (so to speak).

My scenarios normally come with detailed background in a Word document; however, these scenarios do not have that completed at this point. I am also working on one last scenario above the Arctic Circle, and then I am done. I'll package everything I've created over the years and make it available as a single download to anyone who might be interested.

Play testers will get credit for the games they play (all will be recorded as draws, so points will be award with no change in win/loss totals).

Thanks again,

Larry Reese

Larry, kudos to you on the work you've done. My slots are filled for the time being, but I will make sure I will have time to test how the Stella Polaris appear on your Northern Exposure cheers

What is that scenario about?
The Kirkenes-Petsamo operation, in it's entirety, in 1944. Largest map I've ever made. :-)

The Soviet offensive in late 1944, covering the northernmost parts of Norway and Finland?

I'm in, whenever it is ready for testing! :)

I will try it, sounds big and meaty. Maybe we can take on each other Sgt?
Sounds like Larry is still working on it... I guess some patience will be required :)

I am good at waiting...
Yes, the Russian push into northern Finland and Norway. The set piece battles, special forces, naval landings, and maneuver on a big, detailed map... Source material is Russian and US staff studies of the operations. Ha, can almost tell you the serial numbers on the individual tanks.

Thanks for being patient. The map is what is taking so long. A lot of other things going on.

I realised I know preciously little about this operation...

During this operation, the Red Army moved deep into Finnish Lappland, with strong forces. From the Finnish point of view, the situation was still very very tense despite of the Sept. 1944 armistice with Soviet Union. The Lappland needed to be cleared of Germans (200 000 men in the area), according to armistice treaty, while the Finnish Army was to be downsized to "peacetime strength" of 60 000 soldiers. Any failure, or "issue" with progress, and the Red Army would be available to help Finns...

Children's Crusade, as the War in Lappland was to be known, because of a mainly conscript army... Our third part of WW II, War of Lappland, begun in Sept 1944, ended in April 1945...

I found this: The Petsamo-Kirkenes Operation: Soviet Breakthrough and Pursuit in the Arctic 1944 - James F. Gebhardt.

Have you read it, any good? What would be your recommendation for the one, definitive book about the subject? :)

What, what you mean, almost? I do know the serial numbers of individual (Finnish) tanks that participated in my coming scenario ;)

Good things in life are always worth the wait cheers
I should be able to assist with this sub-Arctic scen, Larry,as long as it's not TOO bloody cold.
BTW...what's the big deal with the map?? Surely one expanse of frozen wasteland looks much the same as any other? :stir:Big Grin

How big is it? I have under construction a map for the "Crusader" battles from Halfaya Pass to west of Tobruk 400 x 850. Hard grind. About 1/3 done. Maps are the tough part. For the Western Desert I use GSGS 1cm/km grid maps and just do L-R and U-D square count to establish the key points.
(West is top in this one). The fun bit is putting something in each of 340000 hexes!!
