French 1000 man African infantry, defense 5 with 30 man MG section, takes a 69 man hit from German MG section firing up elevation 2 hex distant. These were good troops! What ho! Is this possible? jonny cheers:kill:
Was the unit in T mode? Perhaps the MG unit in the target hex stack was in T mode, and the infantry battalion was not? Was the target unit in a Marsh or on a Beach (they make units more vulnerable)? In any case, it would not be unreasonable for a "high" roll result I think.

Also, are you playing against a human? A human can very well select several MG units and/or an MG unit and a field gun in a hex and fire them together for a combined result, and all you will hear is the sound of the unit on top firing (ie. the MG).

Single German MG unit firing up elevation @ 2 hex range; defenders both in combat mode, clear terrain, single shot, human opponent. Never saw anything like it; played all told about 100 campaign turns in F 14. Normal shot is 20 men lost at best. jonny cheers
Ah, well that does sound a little extreme when you put it that way, but it could be an outlying case of a high loss (bad die roll). I guess it would be a question of whether or not you see it repeatedly or just one of those bad luck cases.
