Again from the old guy who knows almost nothing but.........
Why would you agree to a team game and not keep a great turn rate.......after all the one thing that kills a team game or campaign is a slow turn rate.I've been involved in some real bomb scenarios but always had the courtesy to maintain a good turn rate...............courtesy would be the key word here.

I know real life can interfere with turns but why would you agree to a team game and have a poor turn rate without an explanation......most of us will accept any reasonable excuse even the one that says my dog ate the scenario file.........

So why would you start a game knowing you couldn't play in a timely manner.................
I would accept almost any excuse except just not playing till the spirit moves you.

Guess I call it just plain rude and unprofesional............so why would you?

I await all excuses. Just know that with a poor turn rate you contribute to ruining a great game.

VE, read your post twice and just can't find anything to disagree with. Poor response time can also just crush the life out of tournaments as well unless the tourney master is absolutely ruthless.

I admit to a certain amount of slow play back in the day when I was working, but never in a team game or a tourney. Perhaps some players don't really know what they are getting into w/a team game, but ignorance isn't much of an excuse. Somebody stiff you recently? :pullhair:
I agree, if you're going to commit to those types of games (tourney, team game), those turns should come first each day. If you can't commit to that, you shouldn't agree to join.

But, yes, I would agree that a team game is a big commitment... will take a majority of your game playing time... and therefore should not be entered into lightly by players. Also, IMO, team game turns should take priority over other PBeM turns.

In fact... if a player is considering entering into a team game... it would be a good thing for that person to reduce the number of PBeM matches in order to free up the time needed to devote themselves to team play. :cool2:
Actually, I never found team games to take up all that much more time than any other ordinary moderate sized scenario. While the scenario itself may be huge, your portion of it (normally) isn't all that overwhelming, but it is usually very entertaining. Your portion of a team game (or tournament) merely needs to be given #1 priority over any other game files you may have pending. It is selfish to do anything less; not to mention rude.

Why some players find this difficult confuses me.

It would be good if the Allied Team from the Smolensk Campaign (that one went over a year) and the Allied Team from the Kursk North Campaign (same map as Smolensk campaign but Germans were coming from the north instead of from the west) could receive credit. These two campaigns ground to a halt after the German side stopped sending turns.
I would say slow turn rates are fine as long as everyone agrees. I have played a couple slow teams games and found that it was very relaxing as there was no presure to get the turns back ASAP. I continued to play these same opponents more than once, and would play them again if asked, because I found them very, very reliable, even if slow. For me, reliability is more important, and I did not mind the slow turn rates. I could wait because I had other things to keep me busy. How many team games have you played where turn rate was fantastic and then dropped off? That team game is as good as dead too. Slow turn rate or fast, neither really indicates to me whether the game will finish. I'll bet certain team games die because of pressure to return turns. If everyone was patient, perhaps the games would've kept going?
It is the slow pay and unreliability of others as a chief reason I do not play team games anymore.

I don't mind individual slow turn rates if the guy lets me know what is going on. No problem.

I don't like slow returns in campaigns because it holds up the entire flow of the game. Now, if there is a reason, and some courtesy in letting others know, that goes a long way. Or, if everyone agrees to a rate of like 1 turn every three or four days. I particularly cannot stand folks that disappear or whose turn rates get crappy when things start going badly for them in a scenario. I am not in love with losing either, but I won't just disappear. I take my lumps or offer to concede the game (once it's gone beyond hope of recovery).

Anyway, just my thoughts,
