Hello all,

Not sure if anyone noticed but HPS now has an update for F14 available. You can get it here:

FWIW, a few fixes were made and some improvements as well As for content changes (not to start a discussion about it), here is the list for v1.01:

- Corrected the #1914_0822_02s_Charleroi and #1914_0822_01s_Campaign_Early scenarios to put the French 18e CA in more historical starting locations.
- Corrected missing releases in the #1914_1018_01s_Campaign_Flanders scenario.
- Corrected a few missing units in the 2nd wave of reserve divisions (in the late OOB) and added those missing units to the scenarios that the parent formations participate in.
- Corrected some German starting positions in the #1914_0826_01s_Le_Cateau (in the west) and #1914_0826_02s_Cambrai scenarios.
- Updated the #1914_0823_02s_Mons scenario to correct a problem with balance.
- Fully modeled the fortified area of Metz and Diedenhofen (Thionville) in the #1914_0822_01s_Campaign_Early and #1914_0822_03s_Ardennes scenarios (this takes effect in a newly started scenario, old scenarios may show units with fortification names in their incorrect forts).
- Added unit artwork for the Metz fortress area.
- Updated the notes.pdf document with more information and some clarifications.
First of all, Ed, I’d like to congratulate you and everybody else who worked on this game, it’s absolutely superb.

I also welcome what you’ve done with this update. I can’t comment on historical deployments, but the 18th Corps is now much better positioned to defend in a previously weak sector of the front. Groupe Valabregue is also now positioned to give the Allies a better chance of closing the enormous gap between the Brits and the sea. Other less significant changes also give the Allies a better chance of accomplishing this, like the engineer unit now placed at hex 128, 66 and, although frozen, in position to destroy a critical rail junction.

I assume you read my other thread concerning the deployment of the French 18th Div northeast of Nancy. I just wanted to confirm that this is the correct deployment for the 18th Div, should it really be deployed so far from its parent Corps?
Yes, it is indeed correct. Search for that in the notes file and you will find something on it. ;) --it is also why that corps has "(-)" in the name, they were historically split apart and kept apart for the campaign.
Wow, you're sure fast with an answer, do you have implants in your head?

Forget that, just a joke. Anyway, thanks for the clarification and thanks again for this outstanding game, keep working on Tannenberg, Caporetto, etc.
Yeah the game is great. I can't wait to play on the Eastern Front.

Hmm, maybe I didn't write something about it in the notes? :eek1: I vaguely remembering writing something about it - but maybe it was removed when the notes were summarized.

Anyway, the decision to split the corps has been historically criticized as foolishness. You can of course bring them together as you say under the same army - it is completely up to your judgement.
Does the update apply to games in progress; specifically A & B units getting a quality fire bonus? Thanks too for the update. jonny ;)
You can apply it to games in progress. The stuff mentioned in the readme take effect in the series, which carry over from changes made in the other series as well. If you want stuff like the new A & B quality units getting a bonus in fire then you will have to make your own PDT file that takes advantage of it, and also make your own scenario that uses that PDT file.

Don't read too much into that however, nothing was changed here -- A & B quality units can fire quite well enough already so none of that new PDT stuff is utilized. This feature was really only added for some future games which might have *very small* elite units.
Oh, how I love this game - thanks for the update, Ed.

A bit off topic, but anyway - Regarding this update and MapMod for F14: I am a little bit behind schedule with making the new unit cards required for this update, inspite of a very early heads-up from Ed, but hope to have them ready for those who cares in a few days or so...

Did I mention that I love this game?

Jison
Jison,
Be sure to put up a post here when your update is finished as plenty of guys here will want to use it. ;)

Thanks to VM for the update, to some extent this title may evolve over the next few months to incorporate any new issues that surface, but i expect most have been dealt with now.

Playing a very interesting game against Ed at the moment #1914_1001_01s: Never Give Up! covers the attack on Antwerp, a real cat & mouse affair with myself as the CP player trying to fight my way through the chain of forts around the city, i only have two reserve div's and an assortment of Landwehr/Ersatz units but a massive amount of arty support, Ed has to balance defending the city while deciding when to start exiting his units to get the required vp's to win, i have taken several forts and advanced a few km, but i don't really know if i am doing well or not??

Great fun........

BTW did i say that i love this title?? :chin:
