Hi all,

Psyched to find this Forum.. also just getting into Panzer Campaigns and finding a huge fan base makes it even more intriguing ...

Question... Is Travel Mode worth turning on for Foot Soldiers? It doesn't seem to increase the distance for reachable hexes (sometimes one for on a road).. was wondering if it's not even worth attempting to turn on..

Also, if you are using AI movement for a division is there a way to prevent the AI from using Travel Mode, so that the units won't be vulnerable if they run into any hostiles?

thanks

Charlie
"Question... Is Travel Mode worth turning on for Foot Soldiers?"

Travel mode helps foot troops when moving on trails or paths through obstructed terrain. It also helps on roads for the same reasons. jonny ;)

Welcome to the Blitz, Charlie, and to the world of Panzer Campaigns.

I never use the AI intentionally, other than to drag a unit from one hex to another in the (hopefully) quickest path. Even that's problematic, as it often disregards minefields and demonstrates an utter lack of intelligence.

But using the AI for formation movement? Yikes!!! (OK, if I'm the Russian player in Smolensk, I might use AI to get my reinforcements to a rally point far short of the front line -- but be careful, as you never know where the front line may be by the time they arrive there.)
Welcome to the Blitz, Charlie. As was mentioned, travel mode is helpful in some situations. But as you suggest, I myself will rarely use it for foot units in clear terrain, as it doesn't help - but through forests and all it sure does, plus when crossing streams with bridges - while it is required for rivers.

ok.. maybe since I'm playing Stalingrad and there aren't many 'forests'.. that may be why I don't notice an advantage.. definitely see it's needed for Bridges...

thanks for the confirmation, that way I know I wasn't 'missing anything'

I ordered Bulge 44 last week, so I'll definitely get to test the 'forest' scenario soon!
