I'm pretty new to Tiller games, having just recently bought Smolensk '41. I'm leaning towards getting Advance of the Reich, or maybe Eagle Strike as my next game. I just have a couple of questions.

I've been looking to see what mods are available for SqB and the available info doesn't seem as clear cut as that for PzC mods. I can't find a good website, like mapmod, that focuses on SqB. Can anyone recommend good sites that pretty much cover it all?

Also, are there any significant, outstanding issues with particular SqB games, or with the system in general? What I mean is, are there weapon systems in the game that are clearly overpowered, or underpowered? I read a post somewhere, in which a player was annoyed that mortars (in Dien Bien Phu) were more effective at killing troops in a bunker, than in the open. I just want to avoid getting into any situations where immersiveness is destroyed by annoying glitches.

Thanks!

As to your question on outstanding issues, no doubt members with way more experience will reply. All I can tell is I never saw on the SB forums the likes of the Über-discussions seen on Theater of War or Il-2 forums.

I am running Task Force Echo 4, that first link, and that site has most things related to the SB world. Take some time, poke around, you won't be disappointed.

SG1's right about the level of discussion on the SB forums. There has never been an overwhelming amount of discussion at anytime that I can remember. This isn't a reflection on the passion of the gamers, however. Post a question and you'll tend to get many very good replies.
Here are a few recent threads, with discussions of gameplay and tactics that might help you out. Either ES or AOTR is a good deal, with a lot of value for your money, and they cover familar conflicts, so they are a good place to start. If you do pick one up, send me a game, and we'll get you out of bootcamp.cheers

Thanks, guys, for the replies and the links. I will almost certainly be buying one of these games, soon. I'm about a week from wiping my PC and upgrading from Vista to Windows 7, so despite my eagerness, it may be better not to rush. I'd install mods, get ready, and have to start over!
Make sure you install your games to a custom directory, such as C:\Games\... if you do so they will run fine on Win 7.

There are no major issues with the system. And no crash bugs at all, to my knowledge. Some people want to see different settings, but as long as you keep in mind that the game is focused on Squad level infantry combat with other elements of the battlefield their as support I think you will be very pleased with the system.

Not to let this slide, but, I am not sure this is true. It was never commented on during playtesting. The mortar values are in line with other games and the bunker values the same....

so I am not sure what exactly was seen....
As someone who played Squad Leader since it first came out and then Advanced Squad Leader, I'll go on the record as saying this is a great game.

Task Force Echo Four is a "must bookmark page", too. TONS of resources.
Wish more guys from the SL/ASL community would discover the games, I think they would be pleasantly surprised...
