I notice even if you designate them as morters they still need setup and they cannot move without T mode???

any advice welcome ...

any chance its to do with the indirect fire tab ?? Hve not looked at that ...

Its not critical but the Russian morters do work ok ??

Hey Cav,

Is this the standard campaign, your mod, what? Need to know what to look at to see the problem.

Exactly - and what do you mean by "even if you designate them as morters" - must be your own Mod

But "Russian morters do work ok" - and there is nothing in the code which will make Russian motars function differently.

Also - what exactly is the problem or problems?

What is the CLASS and TYPE of the unit as defined in the OOB.

Better still why don't you post your OOB, BTL and PDT file - that way anyone can look exactly what you are looking at. Put in the post which hex the unit is question is in so there will be no misunderstading. This additonal info will be needed because if your talking about Arty Setup than this will be a function of the Optional RUles and PDT working with the OOB.

Without all the info, additional posts are just speculating on what or how these files might be set up and what you may be seeing.

It would be nice if you take a look

the mortar units are the Grw Btl19 XXXV Army Troops 9A

They still require setup even when designated as mortars, I think in the original game they are designated as regular Artillery ( which should always need setup ) . I think Russian Mortars require no set up ( or am I going mad ) .

The forum does not allow me to attach the oob or PDT , should I send it to you?

Regards Cav
The reason this unit is designated as Arty and NOT Mortar is because in teh game engine, since Normandy, Mortars are designated a REGIMENT Support weapon. This means your could have a mortar in an Inf or PzGr Regiment and it would fire support ONLY for units of the Regiment it is part of and NOT other Regiments of the same division.

So, because this mortar unit is not part of a regiment other than teh unit itself, if we made it a MORTAR unit there would be NO Arty spotters for it - because the spotters are other units of the Regiment, of which the only units are other Mortar units of the same formation.

When you think about it - the purpose of or ARTY SETUP has less to do with the time it takes to put the guns in line and more about the time it takes to establish Comms with the front line units for the purpose of calling down the fire. You would think that within a Regiment these lines of comm would be in place right away.

So having to SETUP this unit is not a bad thing.

The only side effect I saw when I did this was the unit won't make a MORTAR Sound when it fires.

Go ahead and send me the oob if you would, please. I will discuss it with Glenn if I find anything off, or let you know what is wrong with your oob if it is that acting up. I just ran a simple test, switching 2 of the 3 german units you mention to mortar type, then setup a scenario with them and some Soviet mortars. And all the basic mortar types could move, either side, and didn't require setup either. So I can't create the problem on my end, it worked fine, so there must be something else off on your side of things, but no idea what.

Thanks
Rick

Rick sorry for the delay in reply . Maybe as my game is in progress they will not change and it would need a re start?
Interesting you found it worked ok though - many thanks and many thanks Glenn for your reply.
