Hi Guys,
I would like to add a naval game to my collection. I would like something that is as detailed as SP and probably also turn-based. Any suggestions? I woudl ask this on the relevant message board, but I'm not sure if those guys know what SP is like, so maybe they don't understand my exact needs.

If only we can find someone who has it...

Suggest you post perhaps in General Discusion forum but certainly in Air & Sea one.
Give a breif description of what you are after i.e unit based timeframe etc.

Air & Sea is moderated by Jolly Rodger who plays SP to & I am sure he would be more than happy to point you in the right direction

John
Thanks for the info and advice guys.
Hi Ratel.

In case you´re looking for a challenging and very detailed WW 2 game,
I´d recommend Uncommon Valour or one of it´s successors,
War in the Pacific / Admiral´s Edition. Check out MATRIX for further details.
But this covers naval warfare on a strategical level.

For tactical naval warfare covering the timeframe WW 1 - WW 2,
the HPS Naval Campaign series, particulary HPS Midway, would be my first choice. Best played online in MP mode, as it´s a real - time game.

Salvo by Shrapnel might be a good turn based navel wargame, covers the era of 1700 - 1815, I assume. So far I´ve only played the demo.

Cheers, Klaus
I would highly recommend HPS's Midway (and NWS has the best deal I could find price wise). It is a real time game though...but you can adjust the game speed and pause.

Another great naval game covering Dreadnaught thru 1950 tactical naval combat (currently no naval air component) is WCNAW (Warship Combat: Navies at War). It is produced and sold thru NWS and I love this game! It is turn based.
I tried Great Naval Battles decades ago. It was a good concept, but they (the programmers) never got it to work right. It would crash at random intervals. I picked up a DL from Dogbones ( I think) a few years ago and ran it in XP on DOS box, which seemed to work better. There was a game called Fighting Steel, which was supposed to be the SP at sea game. I didn't like it since it had no Merchant ships. The whole reason warships exist is to either threaten or protect merchant ships. So I figured if they left them out, they didn't know enough about seapower to make a game about it. Then there is Harpoon. Harpoon is built around late 20th century navies, but you could use the editor to make WW2 type battles. No Japanese though. The USA is still a little twitchy about the Jap navy. They make them call their aircraft carriers Destroyers.
That is at least 1 step beyond rubbing it in. The Army doesn't make the Germans call their Panzers 'field kitchens'.
I have never of some of the games mentioned here before.
Things that I must keep in mind is that my time zone is different to most of you guys, making real-time online play maybe a bit tricky sometimes as my daytime is your night time and vice versa. Also, when playing internationally, the pings are substantially higher than the 1st world countries' pings are. I don't know if it would make much difference with this type of game, but I know from experience that it does have an impact when playing flight sims, etc.
I actually have Great Naval Battles IV but what I have against it is that it does not allow for multiplayer and it is very aged at this day and age.
One of my criteria would also be that I must be able to play it via human players on the Blitz, therefore it must preferably one of the mainstream games on the Air & Sea ladder.
The last problem I have is to get whichever game I decide on. I can't get those type of games locally. Will either have to download, with our restricted line speeds, or import, which is expensive.:conf:
How about "distant guns"? You can buy Tsushima (1905) or Jutland (1916). Both games had very good reviews http://www.stormeaglestudios.com/public/home.html
