Disaster at Dompaire, historical scenario. Best played H2H, using MECS. Armor facing "off "
In the wake of defeat at Normandy, Hitler planned to blunt the Allied advance by encircling Patton's Third Army in the Lorraine region. At the same time Patton was also planning to exploit his own gains. This did culminate in a classic battle at Arracourt in mid September 1944.
Prior to this battle, the Free French Forces engaged the Germans at Dompaire on September 14/44.
The majority of Panzer Brigade 112 occupied the town of Dompaire. They were content to dig in and await further orders.Part of the Panzer Brigade remained in reserve, south east of Dompaire, by the town of Ville-Sur-Illon. The Brigade was newly formed and closely matched the strength of the French forces in the area. However, the Germans were devoid of air support, artillery, and experience.
The Free French forces were not content to await a German attack and decided to strike at Dompaire.They formed three battle groups from the 2nd Armored Division to accomplish this task. All were veterans of North Africa and Italy.The French had ample artillery and air support. As well, they had excellent information on the German positions and movements........................
