Am playing the alt konrad scenario (441231_01a: Konrad Campaign - both the Alt and stock versions)). I noticed that 3 of the 4 soviet reinforcing engineers (from the 5th and 6th guards tank army) that appear in the north with bridges instantaneously built over the Hron river are not "bridging" engineers but sappers that wouldn't normally be able to build bridges. Would this be a design feature of the scenario?

Do you have a hex coordinate on those units? It is like trying to find a needle in a stack of needles. ;)
Hex IDs if they are on the map at the start of the scn - otherwise a BTL file would be the way to go, because it isn't clear from this is there is bridges on the map or he is talking about Bridge capable units in the OOB.
hey dont sell late war soviet sappers short....they were superhuman :) and not only could build bridges but wore body armor
Hi Larry,

Looking at the stock OOB for Konrad, all of the non-divisional level Soviet engineers appear to be bridge capable, whether called bridge engineers or sappers. I see the 4 specific ones you mention and they fall into that group - the divisional sappers are not bridge capable. The tank corps that have engineers appear to be bridge capable also.

Considering the number of rivers in the game I think this makes a lot of sense, there are fewer than 20 bridge capable engineers on the Soviet side in all of Konrad, I think, and many of them start out with bridges already.

Don't know if that is an answer to your question/comment, but it is my take on things.

Did some more homework on this issue. Since the non-bridge engineers with bridges appeared in the alt scenario, I just assumed that they also appeared in the stock scenario. In fact, in the stock scenario, they are all bridge engineers. In the alt scenario (and stock), the offending engineers arrive in (93,30), (95,37) and (98,40) with bridges built (God bless them) on January 3 at 2200. (and in the stock scenario they are guards unit, but they aren't in the alt).

The problem this creates come when you want these units to remove the bridges (because vienna is just waiting for them). If you select these units to do a "bridging operation" to dismantle the bridge, you are told that no valid units have been selected. You can, however, abandon the bridges (and congratulate the engineers on becoming motorized infantry).

Anyway, hopes this clarifies my first post.

....always a good thing to do BEFORE you post as at least three people were doing homework based on the info in your original post.

This again underlies why I always ask people for a BTL file - even if the situation occurs at the start of a scn. That way they do their own do diligence on where the situation occurs and the file lets me ZOOM right into the component in the OOB being discussed.

Also components with the exact same name are different depending upon the Nation so a Russian-Guard component might not have an issue while the same or equivalent component under Russian only could.

Edit:

Actually forget this previous post if you read it already. The more I look at it, the more it looks like I didn't intend to do this (accidents happen). I might have entered in all the values and ratings and the bridge flag was disabled accidentally, then I updated it to all said units. So I think I did not intend for the "44 Engineer Bn (Mot)" component to NOT have the bridging status. I will have to look into it more for an update to the _Alt. In any case, you can always add the flag in the OOB yourself, or just keep playing it until I decide if it was intentional for the _Alt or not. ;)
