It has happened to me three times already that I have sent my turn over to other side, only to hear the file I sent contains my previous turn, or no turn at all.

At least in two occasions the timestamp of the file indicates that I have indeed sent a correct file.

Anyone else?

I am suspecting three things:

- JTCS in a 64 bit Win 7
- the compression facility of the Win 7: File Explorer - Sent To - Compressed Folder (or whatever are the correct commands, I have a Finnish interface)
- Gmail somehow messing things up when file is uploaded to their server

Of course the fourth thing to suspect is that I keep doing something stupid while sending the file! But I am very systematic with it so while I was suspecting user error in the beginning I do not have that as a top suspect anymore... :conf:

Any thoughts appreciated!

PS A note to my opponents: I am currently making a lot of saves as I basically stop every once and a while, close the JTCS, then open it again to observe my moves are indeed there ...
Crossroads,
I am finding that with windows 7 I have to delete the existing zip file and then make a new zip file with the current turn. A bit of a nuisance but it works for keeping the most current turn in the file you send.

My friend has some problems with gaming on 64 bit OS, not JTCS though...
He is going to return to 32.

I am still enjoying my 32 bit XP. Can you believe it? :smoke:

Good luck in solving this problem.

Do you have JTCS loaded under your Program Files? I had the same problem when loaded under Program Files, so I uninstalled it and loaded outside my Program Files and I had no more problems sending zip files.
Gents,

maybe the 64 bit version is the reason. I have the 32 bit version of Win 7 professional and use win.rar without problems. I dl the Win XP mode for a virtual PC too but didn´t need it.

I always copy the bte file to a clean folder, then compress it, and once sent move it to an archive. But thanks, this might prove I am in the right track in finding out the core of the problem...

No, I have it directly under C:\\Matrix Games\etc etc

Thanks everyone for your ideas and comments! I will try to be even more careful with the bte and zip files, keeping all folders empty of them when copying them in or creating a compressed file.

cheers
I've been running 64-bit Windows 7 for a couple of months now and played many games with no file or zipping problems whatsover. As someone noted above, it is important to install JTCS in C:\Games (for example) rather than in the default path. I use 7Zip and it works flawlessly with Windows Explorer, no need to recopy anything.

Good luck,

Tim

Yes, I will get a new Zip utility to replace the default that comes with the Microsoft installation. Hope this will solve the problem. Thanks!

EDIT: downloaded and installed the 7Zip utility for W7 64 bits. I will let everyone know if the problem persists.
Windows Vista 64 bit OS was a bust with the online gaming community and to put it simply, it was not compatible with games made by Activision such as Call Of Duty United Offensive etc. When installing the game, the game did not recognize the Vista 64 bit OS as a legitimate OS and the game would not install, so many gamers either stuck with XP or Vista 32 bit. This was a MicroSoft problem. Awhile back there was an article in PC Gamer Magazine which stated that Windows 7, 32 or 64 bit OS was the cure all for all gaming problems and it was, at least for me, I was able to install and play any and all games that I played on XP or Vista 32 bit. I also use Gmail, and have not had any problems. The only time I have seen a problem with a turn is when the other person does not actually finish their game turn and sends the battle file in a Zip without actually finishing their game turn. And this will happen when you do not click on the "Advance Turn" button on your bottom tool bar. As far as I know JTCS is compatible with all parts of Windows 7, 32 or 64 bit OS.

I have not had any other issues with W7 except for the fact that the Map Editor does not work (the map does not scroll properly, becomes garbled instead).

I've had the file problem twice when sending a finished turn. I double checked after sending and I had finished the turn. The most recent issue was with a team game where I do not finish the turn but sent it to my fellow general instead.

Btw, the Unit Viewer does not work either, I received a x64 beta from Arkady in the Matrix forums, that version seems to work without an issue. Overall, W7 has been a nice user experience.

I did not have Vista at all, moved from XP sp3 to W7.

Thanks!
