Hi fellas. the thread title says it all.

I often rotate my non-armored units to the northeast because it makes them much easier to recognize in 3d mode. Many of you who have played against me have no doubt recognized this curious behavior.

But I had a dreadful thought recently that this might cause units rotated in LOS of the enemy to become spotted. Do they?

If not, I suppose it is possible my opponent could surmise the possible numbers of platoons in the hex... by noting the location those (presently visible) units occupy within the hex itself, but I digress.

It makes my force look really organized and units easy to identify, but if it comes at the cost of revealing my units, I may have to rethink this.

Your input is appreciated.

I can't speak exactly to tank rotation, John, but try another example of a "minor movement", let's call it. I dig in a lot. Every time I hit the shovel button on some well hidden bunch of engineers, the world opens up on them.

And fair enough. Rotation and digging are movements You move, you are revealing something to the enemy.

BTW. I have no idea what happened above, but it wasn't caused by me. To post something, you have to hit the button .
I love this wonderful new MB...0 steps forward, 100 steps back. Bring back the old one.
KKR there is a white box below this post where you type then click the Post Reply button.

The blue button on the lower right that is labeled reply has a tool tip that says reply with quote.
The "reply" button at the bottom righthand side of each post used to be called "quote" in the old version of this website

I think "quote" describes better the function of this button
it should be easy to change this

Is it Raz who should make this change??

regards
Remko

Raz didn't make the bulletin board. It's made by myBB (mybboard.net). It's important to keep bulletin boards fairly current, as they're hack targets.

I've never seen your units, John, and we've played a bunch so I doubt rotating them would make them visible.

This opens up another question. Hit the shovel and if they can be spotted, they are, but what happens if nothing is in their LOS. Does a unit digging in become spotted by units that move into their LOS on subsequent turns, or are we back to a die roll?

Dave
I just conducted a test using EF scenario one.

Russians spotting. First I rotated the German units. Never were spotted.

I would of said that changing status of digging in would cause a unit to be automatically spotted.

I did it once when the Russians were in LOS but didn't have OP fire and they were not spotted during the replay. I did it again when the Russians had OP fire and just as soon as I hit the shovel button they started firing.

I presumed it was understood that my Eng elements were in LOS of at least one bad guy element/subunit

I understood what you were saying. Same thing happens to me, but not always, so I assume it's a die roll thing. I was just wondering if units digging in are more susceptible to being spotted then normal, even if nothing's around to spot them when they begin to dig in. Makes sense that they would be, but not sure if that's built in.

Cole's right though, guess we'll have to test. Or read the manual. oog.

Dave
Rotating doesn't have effect on spotting. If it should, it would have to be only with armor facing 'on'. As the armor facing optional rule was added to the original game later after the spotting routines were already in place.
