Full Version: Engineer's Effect on Stone Walls

I'm currently play testing a game in WF and used an engineer effectively to damage a stone wall. I checked if there was damage by viewing the battlefield using the #4 key stroke. Can't remember what that view is called but it shows the units looking like board game icons. The same red "explosion" mark that shows when you destroy a bridge can be seen on the wall.

Anyways... got a little side tracked there... in doing so I tried to move a truck and then a SDK11 transport over that same wall from the same hex side where the wall was damaged. I could not move either unit over to the next hex.

I've never tried this before so I'm not sure if it's a glitch in the Matrix version or is it something that could not be done before in the TS version? If this is not a glitch then what is the use of being able to damage stone walls?

Thx for any thoughts you may have?
Sometimes walls are above escarpments that are not passable. Otherwise you are creating rubble that cannot be crossed by wheeled vehicles.

I don't remember all the rest.
According to baltjes in a thread at Matrix, you can cross blown walls.

Did you ever figure this out?

I've tried to cross over the stone wall that was damaged by an engineer first with a truck then with a SDK11 with no success. There is an elevation difference of +10. Not sure if that makes a difference so I tried to cross it both ways with no luck. There is one other point that may make a difference.

On this map there is a lot of "boggage" (not sure on spelling). When designing a map is it possible to place both stone wall and boggage (both terrain features) on the same hex side? If you can then that may be why I can't cross over. The problem is there only appears to be a stone wall... visually.

Thx again for your thoughts...
Hey Reddog,
I'm playing the Normandy one against you, I think if I heard right someplace, that a 1/2 stone wall will shown destroyed but you still cannot pass thru it.

Hi Chuck:

Thx for your reply, if a vehicle still can't pass over a damaged wall then why give the engineers that capability?

Does a damaged wall restrict LOS and/or stop any vehicle from passing over it? Currently tanks can move over stone walls so if the wall is damaged does it stop that movement? Come to think of it when tanks cross over a stone wall they should do the same damage as an engineer... just a thought.

I'm going to try and see if a tank can cross over that same damaged wall and get back to you.

Do you know if both types of terrain (a stone wall and a bocage) can be placed along the same hex side?

A side note: You and your Team mate are playing a great game...
Chuck/Reddog:

Your correct. High walls that are blown/demolished by engineers become passable to vehicles. Low stone walls will show as demolished but they do not become passable. This is a game glitch.

I reported this to Jason.

Dan
