I'm curious to know what everyone's favorite units are. What are your least favorites. While we're at it, what types of units do you wish could be added to the game that aren't there now?
Interesting question, there are so may but as all out tops I would have to say,

Favorites are:
German:

JgPz-V; TigerI; SS PzGren Inf; MG Platoons: Any Leader; 210mm Rockets; StuPz-IV; Stukas

Russians:

T-34/M43; SU-100; ISU-152; Guards Rifles; Late war SMG Inf; 122mm Howitzers; Il-3m Sturmovicks; Commissars; 120mm Mortars;

United States:

M-36 Jacksons; M4A2E8 76mm Jumbo's; Armored Infantry; 8" Howitzers; M7 Priests; M4 Shermans w/ 105mm; .50-cal HMG; P-47's

British:
Achillies; Fireflys; Grants; Piats; Sextons; 5.5" Gun/Howitzers

Least favorite:

Any Engineer(they get to much attention from the enemy!); Japanese Infantry; Wagons; Boats; Pz-I's; Bicycles; British Crusaders

Unis like to see added:
Some kind of hero that would be generated during battle. More on-map aircraft, usable trains that you can load on, being able to split a unit and finally an immobile disabled tank that can still shoot after the tank platoon takes a disabled hit.
Favorites are:

German: MG Platoons, Combat Engineer and Panther units.

Russians:

T34/85, SMG Units (The 6 FP ones) and BT-7 Light Tank

American:
M-18 Hellcats, Late War Marines

Britian:

Piat Platoons, Grants

Least favorite:

Anything involving the British 2 pounder, Japanese Armor,
PA Infantry platoons

I would not want to see this unit. The game scale is wrong. Works for Squad Leader, but not here.

Quote:More on-map aircraft,

Again, I would not to see this. I don't them as it is.

What I would like to see is transport aircraft that can land on the board unload / load a cargo and then leave.

Quote:usable trains that you can load on,

I am support of this. I think this would be a nice add.

Quote:being able to split a unit

Yes, Yes, Yes the ability to split a unit would be fantastic!

Quote:and finally an immobile disabled tank that can still shoot after the tank platoon takes a disabled hit.

But disables also occur with knocked out sights, damaged main gun, crew casulties and bailout. I think the disabled system is pretty good as is.

Good stuff Ivan!

Thanx!

Hawk
German: Stug IIIs ;) and mk IVs
Russian: T34-85s
British: Fireflys
American: Sherman /76mms

No uber-tanks please. More fun with small-town heroes cheers

I seem to recall reading somewhere that occasionally units do become "heroic" or "berserk" (for all you former ASL er's). I know I have occasionally run across an opponents unit that for whatever reason will not break/disrupt/or retreat no matter how much fire I pour onto the guy. I believe this is CS's way of bestowing a "heroic" characteristic on the unit for a turn. Of course the problem is we never know when one of our own has become "heroic".

Can anyone else comment on this or am I just thinking I read something about this?
I'm not into favourite "units", but I am really in favour of correct terminology.

We have always been able to split units in CS, as the battalion is the smallest unit, and it can be split into sub-units....companies and platoons. I suspect breaking up the platoon sub-unit into its elements would mightily screw up the OOBs. We do have subunits named "squad" and "section", but these are platoons in the OOB hierarchy...they can only be subordinated to a Company level entity.

I recommend the following link
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_or..._and_units
I have to go with:
German: PzGr Platoons, StuG IIIs, MG Platoons
Russian/Soviet: T-34/85s, BA-64 Armored Cars
American: M4s w/ 105mm, M16 Quad Halftracks
British: VC Fireflies, Crusader Tanks, Universal Carriers w/ Carrier Infantry
Japanese: Japanese Infantry and Officers
In-General: Engineers, as these guys work wonders when there are no tanks present on the battlefield.

Least Favorites: Japanese Armor, On-Map Aircraft.
Welll Scud,

There are a lot of good opinions and ideas thus far that give a true flavor for the CS player that is out there. We all appear to be unique in our take on the CS system!

My only hope is that there are more ideas that come across this forum topic. Its a good one Scud,, thanks!

Finally,
"Be careful what you wish for, it may just happen!" A long time a go some boss told me that and I've never forgot it...

Take care!

Thanks John. A lot of it I expected, but commanders and leaders surprised me.
