Jim Von Krieg, the owner of The Blitz website, has asked the custodians to pass on the following message to the respective ladders:

What does the Blitz mean to you? I have no expectations to positive, negative, or nothing, I just want to get a feel from the rank and file about what they think.

So please post your comments in this thread.
I like the fact that Jim, who has been away a lot of late, is showing an interest in the general vibe of the club. That's good leadership as far as I am concerned.

For me, in the most simple terms, The Blitz allows me a free place on-line where I can find opponents to PBEM Steel Panthers. However, it's not that simple eh.

That this is a free site, and there are no ads annoying us....is a very bloody rare thing in the on-line world.
I think a few people need to remember that...you need pay nothing to be a part of this community.

Here, you are treated with respect until you show Bad Form. At that time the forces of moderation start to come into play. If you exhibit Good Form...the Blitz world, small as it may be, is your oyster.

I discovered SP ( the original, back in '93 or so) after a long break from wargaming. I was very happy. A few years later, I had my own computer. By chance a local store had SP3. Hurrah.
I got on line and typed in 'PBEM SP wargaming' or similar...and The Blitz popped up in the search engine. I clicked the link, way back in 2001, and here I am, still.
It's the first page I open when I fire up Firefox, and has been for years.

I have made some very good friends here, as far as you possibly can in the virtual world...and with them I have fought many a fierce battle.
That is as good as I could ever have hoped for when I clicked on that link all those years ago.
Hurrah indeed!

Cheers lads, for all the games, the winnings and the losing ones equally. Cheers for all the interesting posts and all your collective efforts to make a our small community a more enjoyable place to hang out.
You really are a good bunch of geezers.

Well Said Walrus.

I come here to relax and meet with my friends who play SP, we are a rare breed. For myself I travel to make my living and and being on the road so much keeps me from my family and friends at home. This site allows me to make new friends and allows me to play Steel panthers against quality opponents where ever I am.

Merry Christmas to all have a safe and pleaseant holiday season.

Jad
The Blitz is where I can virtually meet mates with similar interests ... like hockey :)

We have some good folk here, it's always fun to check the forum.
Initialy its a site for people with a like hobby to find opponents to play, for many it turns in to a place were long freindships are forged. Its actually then a social site with at least one intrest quaranteed to be in common with others on it. Unlike most social sites though I think most communication takes place by email rather than on the forum, you might just chat a bit as swap turns but it seems to grow from there.
Its funny actualy never thought of this but I owe the game designers & Jim for providing a nice clear easily navigatable site a big thanks for introducing me to a lot of people I now class as friends. The money I spend on games is therefore probably the best investment ever.
I used to play SSI and Avalon Hill games back in the 80's on an Apple IIe and would think 'man would it be great to play against a human opponent', Eventually the IIe fell by the wayside and I didn't purchase another computer until yr 2000, was of course searching online for war gaming sites, I first found download site for SP and the H2H mod and I thought NO WAY this is for free....Party WOW then I found the Blitz web site and finally was able to connect with others and play against human opponents and found out just how much I didn't know....thanks to all my opponents  for the learning experience and the continuing education...........cheers
I think the Blitz is a great place to meet fellow gamers and make new friends from around the globe. I have met some great people and hopefully they will blossom into long term friendships. I also think its great to meet people who share a lot of the same interests,it seems like military history lovers are a dying breed.

I think it's great that we have a place like this to meet, talk and compete and I would like to thank everyone for their hard work in making this possible! Thank You!!
I haven't been here long, but what I enjoy is the fact that I can play a great, great game against human opponents that are mature and civilized. I have been involved on other forums for the last two or three years. You find many guys there don't have any manners whatsoever, some of them real nerds that hide behind their PC's and in the virtual world where they know there rude remarks and behaviour cannot be punished with an 88 up their...... Heck they don't even know what an 88 is  Probably think it's something they can smoke Big Grin
Oh and did I mention this game is absolutely great? Only once? Big Grin

I couldn't have expressed it better.

I never had my behind served to me in such a masterful way, leaving me with generous advice and experience every time. Thanks for that! cheers
For me Blitz is one of the very few "dinosaurs" last on the net, where manners and civilized way of solving arguments are as much important as knowledge itself. Great place for discussions and sharing ideas. The game itself and the fact this site is free of charge are just added bonus. I guess Jim himself and other officers succeeded in making this place not for anonymous, covered behind PC's, players but for real people, just like old style board gaming clubs were. Honestly speaking, for me it is the only place on the net where one thinks twice before writting anything, bearing in mind what others will think about you.
I havent played for over the year, but still watched the forum on regular basis. That shows what Blitz means to me.
