Do these units receive the same benefits as Thermal equipped units when firing at night?
James:

Units in teh game are classified by a combination of UNIT TYPE and UNit Class. Guidled Missile is a CLASS of unit.

Thermal imaging is a FLAG or a check box turned on for a unit component type. The two are not related in that the game OOB does not automatically select the FLAG on or off like say the 2D map symbol which is determined by TYPE\Class combination.

So in theory you could enable the Thermal Imaging Flag for any unit.

You may wish to load the OOB you are using and check things there to get a feel with which units have or do not have the Thermal Imaging Flag on. Or you can right click on the Unit window to see if it says THERMAL IMAGING for the units as seen on the map in the game or Scn editor - which ever way works best for you.

To add to what Glenn said, unless I am mistaken, the main thing a guided missile type unit does is that its hard attack value is not reduced by the Range Effect Modifier value in the PDT (because its armor penetration capability is not reduced over range). This means you are always better to keep these units as far away from the enemy as possible since their attacks will not be reduced in power over range, and the standoff range will keep them safe.

Other than that, the TIS flag can be placed on any unit although you cannot fire more than one hex at night.
I guess I was thinking that a guided missle was similiar to a thermal sight if it was laser guided. I forgot this game is in the 80's not current.
