If you could remake a war movie, which one would it be? I am watching Battle of the Bulge early this morning and I want to re-make the movie with Don Fox as a technical advisor.

So many great actors and such a sorry story line. There was no need to dramatize it because there were enough true stories to make a heck of a movie. It should be more like The Longest Day or A Bridge Too Far or Gettysburg.

Battle of the Bulge: A Mini-Series.

I have to hit Wal-mart today to pickup Patton 360. I saw some of it last night. It was interesting.
A Don Fox advised/inspired Battle of the Bulge would be awesome. Eek

I'd like to see "A Walk in the Sun" remade. Or, even "To Hell and Back." :chin:

cheers

I wouldn't mind a remade Midway which encompasses some of the more recent studies into both sides of the battle rather than relying on the less-than-reliable account by Fuchida. And include some nice CGI to get the ships/planes right. A few caveats:

-No Ben Affleck
-No love triangle. Not even a "I like a girl, but she's Japanese" side plot. No love story at all.
-I will of course allow the inclusion of Kate Beckinsale for a role.

Mike

P.S. I am curious how much, if at all, the new HBO Pacific mini-series will deal with the naval battles in WWII, or if will be an all-Army affair similar to Band of Brothers.
Yeah.....Kate Beckinsdale works :-)
Yeah Ben Affleck doesnt :-)
For me it would be "Enemy at the Gates"

To have two superior snipers hunting each other down (Ed Harris and what's the other one's name?) in the ruins of what appeared to be a deserted Stalingrad didn't make a lot of sense to me. I kept asking myself where the other half a million men were? Stalingrad was anything but deserted in late 1942! Dunkin Donuts wasn't around then so I'm not sure where they all went...

Also I have to echo JvK sentiment on Bulge!
For me, M48 Patton Tanks as Tigers just didn't cut it! Probably a budget issue or the producers figured no one would notice! I did and I was 10 years old when I first saw it in the 60's.

I can't see that a miniseries about the Pacific War could not give the Navy its' rightful place...otherwise it would be absurd. As for the great Band of Brothers, it was after all the story of one US Army Paratroop Company....hardly surprising the Army played the main role!!!

Still...it is Hollywood. I expect PC will dominate history.

Indeed. Or like the excellent excellent 2003 indie flick "Saints and Soldiers". A story of a motley crew of soldiers who found themselves in the middle of the battle later known as "the Bulge".

My 0.02€ would go to a remake of the excellent excellent ( :) ) Sam Peckinpah classic Cross of Iron.

Nothing wrong with the original.

I would simply like to see a modern version with a modern view and a huge huge budget and eye for detail such as in Band of Brothers.

Cast by bright, unknown new faces.

Kate Beckinsdale in a brief cameo :)
Oh yeah,

Cross of Iron would be a good one, but I'd be afraid it would disappoint. That is a high bar to overcome.

As this focused on what I considered an excellent movie it got me to thinking. I'd like to see a remake of Zulu. Maybe a miniseries with the 24th Foot getting wiped out followed up by the last stand at Rorke's Drift.

One book I'd like to see as a movie is "Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors". That could be a "Navy" band of brothers type movie. I'd love to see the shots of the destroyers making their suicide torpedo runs on the Japanese heavies.

Something contemporary would be "Lone Survivor", the tale of a Seal Team in Afghanistan in 2005.
I am surprised we have not seen a "Lone Survivor" movie. :chin:
Marcus was an emotional writer that put word pictures in my head.

I know the book had impact on my life. I cannot get his teammates out of my thoughts, nor what he went through to survive.

I'm not sure that Cross of Iron could be remade as good as it is now.

cheers
