lol,

Just had one of my recce planes shot down by 105mm howitzers. I don't think this is particularly realistic. Shouldn't only AA capable weapons be able to fire at aircraft (i.e. if it can shoot at air strike aircraft it can shoot at on-board aircraft)? Or is there a problem I'm not seeing there?

That is correct, only AA capable weapons should be able to fire at it. The 105mm may be coded incorrectly.

Will add it to the list to correct.

What game was it?

If you fly into the trajectory path of artillery, you will be shot down... Whether you meant to or not.. LOL..

Those pilots should have been a bit more careful when they were scouting..

Wicked 34: Raven TOC, this is Wicked 34 over... Raven TOC: Go ahead Wicked 34... Wicked 34: I am observing 105mm artillery in the open... going in for a closer look... Raven TOC: Roger... please pass coordinates... (A few minutes goes by...) Raven TOC: Wicked 34 please respond to last transmission... pass coordinates... (Nothing) Wicked 34 do you read?
I think I read somewhere that Patton was in a scout plane and the pilot got too close to an active American artillery battery. Eek
Patton cursed at him and tapped him with his riding crop, the pilot did finally get out of the area. Whip
I don't think Patton went up with that pilot again.

If the battery opt fired, destroying your plane, that is not right. :kill:

cheers

Biplanes in WW1 were hit quite often on the static Western Front by artillery. Maybe you should spend the points to upgrade to single wing aircraft with a higher ceiling. Big GrinBig GrinBig Grin

Vietnam experience, as I recall. suggests you may get hit, certainly not will get hit.
Of course if you stray into a barrage beaten zone you can be hit (but don't get me started on the faults of the CS artillery system, it's weakest point in my opinion). Jason, this was direct fire with either 105s or 150mm howitzers on my opponents turn in the updated version of my "Freeing the Ukrain" scenario. I was pretty dumbfounded. Don't have the map available at the moment, but it was the German infantry division artillery batteries that start in the town on the paved road, half way between the two Russian crossing sites.
