Nomonhan...a village (? the village?) in the disputed border area east of the Khalkin Gol (Halha River) in the Mongolia/Manchukuo area. A little fight in 1939 here led to escalation, resulting in the major battle of Khalkin Gol a couple of months later, featuring a bloke named Zhukov. Some people think the Japanese defeat turned them away from expansion W and N, towards the softer targets E and S. Who can say?...... but it seems to me a reasonable theory. Watch the Tachankas (Russian MG carts) which can fire forever ( I have pointed this out to the Authorities). Easy to take out.
