Full Version: Radiation, nuclear warning and bridges?

When do you know when the enemy is using nuclear weapons?

I was playing as WP in AFNorth in Danube Front 85' (solitaire) and sometimes I see "Radiation" marked on a hex. I haven't used nukes before in the game, so it would seem to be the AI who using them.

1. How do you know when it is possible to use nuclear weapons?
2. Which types of units is capable of firing tactical nukes? WP mostly?

Another question, what is the difference between ordinary bridges and pontoon bridges? do they have different advantages/disadvantages?

For one thing - when a nuke strike happens a disctinctsound plays I am pretty sure.

If it was a Stock scn - NATO can't us Nuke Weapons until the WP uses WMD first. If your playing a scn you downloaded then anything goes.

It's defined in the PDT

Right click on the unit Window and it will say IF/WMD

Have look at the documentation and if something isn't clear post again and refer to a game, Scn and a hex IDs (bridges) your refering to and I am sure someone will help you out. But generally a bridge is a bridge - you get over a minor river fast than fording and you need a brdige to get over a river.

I usually play without sound, so as to make it go faster. Probably try turning it on.

I'm using alt. scenarios. Just looked in the scenario editor, and the tactical nukes limit for NATO is -3. IIRC, that means NATO has a limit of 3 tac nukes, but has to wait until WP fires first.
That would seem odd, since the only weapons I have been using, are chemical weapons, both NP and P.
Or is that also a trigger for tactical nukes?

I will try rephrase my question.

1. Can a bridge, built by an engineer, cross a water hex? or is it only pontoon bridges?

2. are there any difference between moving over a pontoon bridge (built by an engineer) and an ordinary bridge (built by an engineer), such as movement cost? or is the only difference that a pontoon bridge can be built over a water hex.

A bridge built by Eng over a FULL WATER hex is a PONTOON BRIDGE

A Pontoon Bridge - built by an Eng occupies a hex and for a unit to move in that hex it must pay the MP cost for the hex as defined in the PDT

An ordinary bridge built by an Eng crosses a hexside and units must pay the cost additonal cost in MPs to cross that hexside.
