Help !!

When building a Scn does any replacement value you set in the OOB editor overide the recovery rate set in the PDT ?

For example if for instance the Allied recovery rate in the PDT was set to 10% and in the OOB editor a specific Allied division had a replacement level of 5% how does it work ?

Many Thanks
Replacements are in addition to recovery values. The difference is, replacements is not dependent on unit quality, does not depend on the unit's strength, but does depend on the supply / isolation situation of the unit, whether or not the unit is disrupted or broken, and whether it is detached from its parent HQ or not.
And you should note that since a turn is 2 hours long, that a 2% value is quite large, and should see a unit reaching fullish strength in less then 2 days.
Many thanks

So the best way to simulate the lack of infantry replacements for the British after Normandy landings would be to set Allied recovery rates to 0 in the PDT and edit the individual formation replacements for the Allies via the OOB editor ?

That would be one way to do it - but I think the hard way.

Allied replacemnts rate is 5% in the default game - why not leave that alone or change it to what you think the default value for allied units in general should be, and then individually set any that you believe will be different.

Less work that way I should think.

You also have to be very careful because the recovery rate is based on strength lost at that point in time from full strength, while the replacements are a percentage of full strength, no matter what the losses. So replacements are a steady stream regardless of how close ot full strength a unit is, while recovery slows immensely the closer a unit is to full strength.

Thanks Ricky thats what I needed to know.

One more quickie..............say I set a particular Corps replacements to say 5% and a subunit within that Corps to say 10%..............would that subunit receive 10% while the rest of the Corps receives 5% or does the subunit receive its 10% plus the Corps 5% ??

Thanks
Yes, the sub unit would all receive the 10% but the units in the parent formation would receive 5% (in your example). Basically, a lower organization's rate will override a higher one, and units that are not given a rate which are under a parent will receive that parent's rate (ie. An entire corps will receive that 5%, as well as any units you attach over to it -- so be careful -- but sub units that have explicit rates set will always receive their rate instead). Anyway, I have already did all this in the N44_Alt scenarios. Allied recovery rates are set at something like 1%, and the US units (except for airborne) and the UK tank formations all have replacements so that the British infantry units do not gain a lot of strength.

In regards to the replacement rates, yes, 1 or 2% would be the most used values, but it all depends on what you want to accomplish. If you set it higher than this for some reason then fine, you might want units to regain full strength in several days. This is not entirely unrealistic given that the unit would have to physically sit in place for two days and be in good order and, out of the front line (so MPs are not sapped from it, and so it won't get disrupted), and it has to be in good supply and within range of the HQ. The supply level also plays a factor in replacements; I think if the supply level is ~25% or so then the replacement rate for that unit will be reduced and scaled to 0% depending on the supply level that is < ~25%. So you can't just assume that units will regain replacements to the point that every unit will regain full strength in a few days just because of the replacement rate you set.

With that in mind though, if you want to create the feeling of a "horde" then I would recommend using about 4%, but certainly no higher than 5%! 10% is definitely too extreme.
