Gentlemen,,
Ive looked back over the threads,, and on the second or third page of the Vista discussion, Im still wondering,,

IF I buy a new compuer with VISTA,,, will CS and CM work? without all the patches, downloads, band-aids, duct-tape and microsoft wizz-bang glue?

as Ive been reading, microsoft is working on a VISTA fix-it,, called IE7, internest explorer 7,,,,,

would it be better to wait till then, get a new one now and go through the "naked-in-a-gas-fire" dance to get it working?,,, or say screw it and stay with what I got?,,, windows XP?

thanks in advance!! as most of my opponents will atest to,, Im pretty computer-stupid,,, (let it go at that General Reddog!!)
Hey JRTXX,
From what I've expirenced the Windows XP is easier. Laptop has vista, desk computer has windows XP.I can't get any of the files to zip up in the Vista. I've deleted the zip after downloading it for my turn all I get is the file is busy. Hard to believe because it doesn't exist anymore. I believe you will get several opinions on the subject all stating whats best.I know that windows XP is getting phased out but the support for it will be around for sometime. It really comes down to which you are more comfortable with.

Both of the comp techs in the school I work in have advised me to steer clear of vista if at all possible.

Matrix version of CS will work with Vista, Talonsoft version won't.

Jason Petho doesn't think Windows 7 will pose a problem with the Matrix version, should you wish to wait. Vista isn't as terrible as some people claim, but Microsoft put a lot of unnecessary security features in which becomes a pain for experienced computer users and a dilemma for novices who didn't understand the alerts. Took me awhile to figure out how to turn off a lot of that stuff; the rest I just live with.

Windows 7 is getting raves from all the beta testers. I would definately wait if I were you.
It took some time before the early W98 and XP problems were solved and Vista is not there yet. It takes time to find them and access all the special new drivers, fixes etc.. The worst feature of Vista is the heap of new security etc upgrades which really chew up online time unless one is on broadband. There are XP security additions and upgrades which also chew up time but not nearly as much

My local computer expert is selling new computers loaded with XP as he claims it is more satisfying to customers and gives him less follow up problems than Vista.

I love XP and Matrix but am still running a partition loaded with W98 for my huge Talonsoft collection, Family History etc which are precious but not converted to XP

True enough for XP and Win98, but Vista's done. 2 years. Windows 7 is due out in May, after an SP2 release of Vista. I've read Vista users will have an easy upgrade to Windows 7 (for a price, naturally), but XP users may be looking at a reformat. Hard to believe that last part, but that's what I read.

Based on the prereviews, if I were in the market for a new computer, I'd still wait and get one with Windows 7 or at least a free upgrade.

The truly disgusting part in all this isn't the wasted money and hastles with the systems, it the gloating from all my Mac user friends that really annoys.
Thank you guys, damn no wonder I get my ass handed to me by so many!!!
Here are some important facts to note.
1. Microsoft will continue to bring out new versions which means that they will stop supporting older versions as they have done with W98 and doubtless, before long, with XP.
2. The new versions will all have upgrades and extra security features
which really chew up online time for those who are not on Broadband
3. Hard drives are now huge and their price is dropping. Unless you are into stealing movies they have far more capacity than we can ever use. This means that there is plenty of space for Partitions which can hold proven, trusted products like XP (and even W98) to be loaded with existing folder files and games and used the same way as we are used to. This means that we can keep using proven programs while learning how to use the main partition for the new drivers, upgrades, extra security and communication tricks etc.

I am very happy playing Matrix JTCS on my reliable XP partition while my huge number of Talonsoft games and other old programs are available on my W98 partition. I prefer this to struggling to learn Vista which has a lot of stuff I do not need or use

All good points and don't forget the solid state drives now out (expensive though). Just to note though, Talonsoft and Matrix versionss play just fine on XP, so you might want to bag win98.
