Guys, sorry for the site going down yesterday. It was my fault as I had to work out some unresolved details with our current server host. They pulled the plug without notifying us. Fiery It took until this morning to reach the right parties to get it resolved.

With Raz's help, we will be moving to a new server mid-month and should see significant benefit from a faster, higher capacity server configuration -- for less cost! Thanks Raz! :bow:

Sorry again for the blackout yesterday.

Mark~Thor
I can live with it ... especially if the result is faster, better and cheaper :)
Yes, faster is sweet; no more submitting a report and the watching an hour glass spin for 5 minutes.
I like to go thru my routine of email and this site and don't like things getting messed up. But considering I come here nearly on a daily basis and compared to all the times there was no interruption, I'd have to say that is a pretty damned good track record.

I appreciate the explanation and look forward to the new server.

And IMO, no apology is necessary.
Yeah I got over it after the first 10 minutes crying and weeping, Big Grin

no apology needed.

Mark;

The limited interruptions are a direct result of the Blitz having a dedicated server. It's one of those little things that we pay extra for that isn't always obvious to the casual user, but which makes us different than a lot of other sites. At the end of the day, a lot of sites that say they are there for the war gamer and the hobby, are really there to make money for the owners. So they try for the lowest operating costs (no dedicated server) and they place ads on their pages so that they earn money when you click on their pages (in that type environment they don't care if it's gossip or scandal that brings you to the page, as long as you click on it). That's all good business sense to be sure, but that's my point. The Blitz has never been a business, and never will be a business. It is about being a place for gamers, and about games (and history ;) ), and nothing else. It's a labor of love and not a chance to make a couple of dollars off of people with a common interest. It's that mentality that makes folks like Mark (Thor) apologize when we fall below the standards we set for ourselves.

Good Gaming;

Paul
Paul just said it in short why this is my home page :)
Well said Paul...and Vesku.

It's the first page I open up every day.

It's a very rare thing these days not to battered by advertising the moment you look at anything.
This place is a welcome respite.

Hurrah! The Blitz! Big Grin

You guys are great. Thanks for the kind words. Appreciated.

We are truly a band of brothers who share a common affliction. :group: Or at least that's what my better half thinks . . . :dunno:

cheers
Mark~Thor
I'd be willing to bet that all our better halves feel the same way. But they are still with us, mine has been with me for 26 yrs, so we all must be doing something right.

I understand there are things that go on behind the scenes and Thor had the courtesy to come in here and apologise for something that wasn't their fault. If one does that, you know they would also apolgise for something that was. I figured the least I could do is have the courtesy to let them know I didn't think one was necessary. Especially for somebody else's fault. Two places on the web I go more than any other is email and here. A few others, but nowhere near the amount of the first two. This is a great site!

As for ads, I could do without them. If ever ads had to be brought here, I don't think it would be much of a problem if they pertained to gaming and history or anything else that is what everybody here is all about.
