Strange situation PzKw IVb shots at 9TP (polish tank) distance 1050 and ... using HE ammo ?! Why ? Is this bug or I don't know something ???
Let me guess, SPWW2? Probably the crew thinks it has better chance of knocking the enemy out with HE. Standard explanation when something odd happens in the game, it's never an error or bug, just what the pixel men thinks.
ups sorry yes SPWW2 - i understand one crew ... but why few crews doing the same ? :hissy:
Hi Target

In the SPCAMO games it is written into the code (it is NOT a bug Vesku...you bloody know that!) that if a tank has no chance of penetrating the target with standard AP ammo, usually due to range and the drop off of penetration ability over distance, then the crew will fire HE.
HE has a chance of over-penetration at all ranges and at least gives you a small chance of a result...rather than zero.

The PZ-IVb is an infantry support tank, with a short barrel HE chucking gun. Trying to shoot up tanks at over 1km is not really in it's mandate eh :-)

Cheers
Jason

Not a bug. Pz IVb has a pen value of 5 with AP rounds at 50 yds. so probably can only pen 1 at 1050 yds. The Pz IVb HE round can pen 2 at ANY range. So I think you owe your panzer crew an apology Big Grin They know what they are doing...
Where can you see what the pen is at different ranges? In waw series you can see it at prop window.

Hi Vesku,

I think SPCamo has always had a policy of not releasing that sort of matrix data.

IIRC, one of their reasons was to keep people from taking too much of a mathematical approach to the game.

Thoug I assume the usefulness of the data would be limited, because you can hit 'weak spots' hit at angles, get mobility kills etc.
I use that info all the time, it's very useful, often deciding which piece to purchase.
