I do realize that it might be poor form to steer folks to another ladder's tourney, but since most of the folks here compete over there, I don't feel too, too guilty. I would like to get one rolling here sometime this year, but it's going to have to wait until well after my second son is born in March....

This tourney will be post 1950, so Korea, VN/TOD or SAW. The Long War and Arab-Israeli Wars have not been included, probably due to the lack of history on many of the scenarios. I know that when putting together a tourney play-balance is of utmost importance and there just isn't any history on most of these new scenarios. Perhaps if you folks entered some of your PBEM games of those on the ladder, they can be included in a potential tourney in the future, possibly here. I think it would also give IronX some good feedback as to potential tweaks that could be made in regards to balance of the scenarios.....
They are great fun. Also a good place to meet new opponents.
There are 5 days left in the voting and it seems that Vietnam is starting to run away with things. Any of you Vietnam affeciandos (jamesric comes to mind) who are interested in getting involved, head over there, sign up for their ladder and when the tourney rolls around, join on in. You can post results of your games on this ladder as well. Many of us do so, keeps both ladders running well and populating the database with scenario information. Good for the entire community.

I will say to those who might be a little sheepish about getting involved in a tourney to put any fears aside and join in the fun. I don't think there's a feeling of "I must win this tourney or my life is over" type stuff that happens over there. I've played in the last three tourneys and have enjoyed myself greatly. It's fun to meet new folks and play someone new. Good learning experience.

To those folks out there who made just read the boards and play SB solo, I'd say give PBEM a try. I know when I first started out as a SB newbie, I really didn't want to take on other people, figuring I'd just embarrass myself by playing badly. Initially I did play a little worse than I did against the AI, but it really opened up some new avenues in terms of getting better and learning the game engine in a more in-depth way. There are many guys on this ladder who take on new guys and run through scenarios as teaching tools. Landser34 (Dennis) and I have discussed some guidelines for folks taking on newbies, like registering the first game as a Draw, unless the newbie wins it. Takes the pressure off of starting off on a losing streak, not that most folks take their W/L record all that seriously...

Food for thought. Anyone out there who might be interested, feel free to send Dennis or I an EMAIL and we can chat a bit before moving you forward on the ladder. Give it a try, you will not regret it.
