Arrow has him right where he wants him, Moondog is overconfident, prone to making a critical error...;) Looks like a game that I might play, the only thing missing are 2 bogged tanks and my infantry shooting at each other, while my artillery lands so far off the map, I can't find it.

Oh it's dead all right - the second tiger shot got him. And BT - I'll have to report on the church next time...too much armor action today...
And isnt it always your HQ tank, skulking along "safely" that gets nailed? Glad others suffer from that too.

Well, I never had that problem with my artillery. If my own fire is not landing where I meant it to then it is the stonk that just killed my FO team. In all my games I have also killed perhaps six AFVs with 81mm mortar fire, four of them friendlies. It is amazing how much more effect medium mortars have on their own troops.

LOL.

It's not just the medium stuff. I recently had an errant 170mm round fall 150!!! meters short of the target area, and land into a tightly packed platoon ready to jump off after the barrage...

Doom...

Doom...
Ouch!

Exciting battle! Can't wait to see if Arrow has some tricks up his sleeve.
Battle for the church:

Here is a shot of the church at the end of turn four. It's a little more difficult to follow infantry with extreme FOW because often they aren't visible. But here we see things from Arrow's side. The numbers are listed as survivors/killed.

We can now see the superiority of Arrow's US squads. There are 12 men per squad and their firepower at this range is 209. The Pioneer squads trying to enter the church have 9 men each and their firepower is only 161. Even though the bulk of Moondogs infantry is veteran, his Pioneer platoon here is regular quality. They are already getting shot up and pinned.

In this next pick, we see Arrow has run another squad into the church at minute five. The german squads are panicking and more than half destroyed. Their platoon HQ has been killed outside.

In this last pic from minute six we see the firefight is over, with Moondog's Germans all dead - a platoon HQ and two squads. The nearby 251/1s were blocked from supporting fire because of the hedge.

Arrow is in solid control of the central church at this point.

**Stay tuned - I've looked ahead and this battle is NOT over yet! :0
Thanks DK for updating us on the infantry battle at the church. Looks like all the German pioneers died in the right place! :(
A SHOCKING TURN OF EVENTS:

A few minutes goes by of infantry slogging towards the flags and vehicles adjusting positions. Then, on minute seven, Arrow decides to hunt his two Shermans on the South flank forward. There is already a US infanry screen in front of them so it is a pretty safe move. Within 15 seconds a "Panzer IV?" appears - it is driving on "fast" and has its full side exposed to the two Shermans, who both target it.

It is immediately pentrated - the two Shermans continue to fire and finish it off. Only after a few more rounds hit home do they realize what they bagged.

It is Moondog's Elite Panther! For some reason as yet unexplained, he ordered it to zip on "fast" over to the South in the area of his vet tiger. This exposed it to Arrow's hunting guns. The Panther paused for a few seconds while ajusting it's course, and that is when the American shells started slamming into its vulnerable exposed side.

Perhaps Moondog was ticked about losing the church and was impulsively sending the Panther to blow it down? But regardless, the damage is done. And we can see that Elite armor gets pierced just as easily as conscript armor does. 2 MG42 riders were swept off of the tank by mg fire.

After Arrow's gift from heaven we see he is not in such bad shape after all. In this overhead shot we can see he has three of six flags, and is sending infantry to the fourth in the south of town uncontested. Soon he will have 4/6 flags and Moondog will be forced to attack at least two of them. Arrow has some of the approaches covered well by 57mm guns. Arrow can now sit and Moondog must still move - the advantage goes to the one sitting still.

Moondog says to Arrow: "Now I'm just hoping the lone tank I killed on my left was your special one because mine is gone and i'm dragging my singed arse through the bushes, however the ease and speed with which you dispatched my pimped up ride makes me think it might be the killer.. damn....."

But in reality it was only a Regular Sherman - Sgt Holloway - that got him.

NOT THE PANTHER!!! :hissy:
I bet Moondog was banging his head against the keyboard over that one Cry
Good shooting by Arrow's Shermies though :)

DK, that serious loss needs a photo of Hitler saying something about Moondogs Panther :smoke:
