For those of you who have added IronX's Long War Mod to your SB gaming collection, you may be interested to see that he's currently working on another Mod, The Arab-Israeli War, which will also be platformed off of SAW. It may be poor form of a moderator to steer you to another forum, but he has some really nice screen shots of his current work, as yet unfinished.

I'm working my best to get IronX on our site a bit more, perhaps to discuss his current work and just how he's been able to take the SB world by storm with his fantastic stuff.

I am also working on getting The Long War's scenarios into our database. Since they work off of an existing game, we need to do a little bit of extra work to get the ducks in a row....

How many of you have been actively playing LW and need to register games?
I have played and am currently playing Long War scenarios with 4-5 different opponents. I do not care about registering at the moment thought it would be great to have this mod added to the database. IronX did a great job and I am looking forward to Arab-Israeli War. Hopefully more scenarios will be created for the LW.
I think having the games registered would not only be good PR for the mod, but might give him and future scenario designers a better feel for the balance of the scenarios. The couple I played around with are a little less balanced that you'd like to see, but he did mention that the scenarios were more for demonstration purposes showcasing the new goodies within the game.
This is true. Initially some of the LW scenarios were just a means of testing the new units and I didn't even bother with AI scripts or playing with the objective scores. It was a learning experience for me and I'm hoping the scenarios for AIW will be more polished. Without a playtest team there's likely to be some missions that are unbalanced or flawed in other ways.

While I play each AIW scenario a number of times, and am generally happy with the result, they obviously won't be as well constructed as those that come with a new game.

I'm looking at making about 25 scenarios for AIW, give or take a few, some of which are historical and others generic. They'll cover a range of tactical situations and periods from the 1967 war to the near future. They'll feature a lot of vehicles as the Israelis relied on them as a force multiplier but I'll try and ensure the infantry remains the focus for most scenarios. Having said that, I have a couple of missions that feature vehicles only. One includes a strafing mission set during the 73 war and another, also in that war, is just tank versus tank.

The other new feature of AIW mod is completely revamped map tiles. In the LW mod I was going for a classic board wargame look and while I thought it worked well others didn't. So I've taken the feedback on board and created map tiles and objects that are '3-D' and I think they look pretty sweet. I've tried to match the color with that of Israel's terrain and think I've come pretty close. I've done the same thing as well for the LW mod and will release an update containing the new tiles at the same time. They completely change the look of the game - for the better.

I hope to post some new screens and perhaps an AAR after Christmas.

Happy holidays!

Here is an AAR of one of his current scenarios under development. Nice looking work. I'm sure the SB community can't wait to get its hands on this Mod!

Truly awesome. Pity most of my design time goes to official work. But I'd really like to create some scenarios when the mod is out. We are so lucky to have such a talented fella within our community.
