HiHi

Anyone any idea how to get the old Talonsoft BG games working on Vista?

My puter has Vista 32 bit OS.

I have tried loading direct, no go as the games are 16 bit, tried setting up a folder on my C: drive, copying the game into it and then adding the 2.07 32 bit patch from the JT site and patching up, it still wouldn't run so tried setting the compatibility to Win 98, still no joy.

Next I tried burning the whole folder to a new disk and install from there, still no go. Tried 98 compatibility, nope just ain't doing it, problem being with the copied disk is it keeps asking for the Antietam disk which is 16 bit, so back to square 1 :-(

What am I doing wrong? Anyone any thoughts, so I can help get CG out of the dreaded Bootcamp, or, is there anyone out there who has the old Talonsoft games still running and would help Captain General get up and running on the ladder.

Maybe this post can be helpful. Perhaps not the easiest solution..

EDIT: Looks like the forum is down. Here's the post:

"I am currently successfully running all Battlegrounds titles both ACW (except Chickamauga)and Nap titles on Vista.
How? I installed them onto my laptop (Windows XP), updated them and then COPIED them to a flashdrive then to my new Vista computer (not to program files but to a new folder, Games/Battlegrounds/"game title"--Nap titles PTW & BGW must be installed in the root directory of whatever drive you choose). Right click on the start icon, create a new shortcut and they 'seem' to run fine. I do use a master disc.
NB: I have not yet played around with Chickamauga nor have I approached this problem from a scientific inquiry with screwing around with all the variables. I just tried this and it worked, so I thought I'd pass on the idea.

HiHi

Cheers for taking the time to help Zeiss.

It's a bit of a bummer as I don't have a Laptop to try that method, fraid CG may have to wait on Father Christmas coming up with the goodies (Matrix version), but I appreciate you trying for a solution.

Thanks for trying to help.

Thanks fellas. Happy to help.

The other Kingmaker Wrote:It's a bit of a bummer as I don't have a Laptop to try that method,

Don't think you need an actual Laptop. Any computer with XP should do the same trick. The "magic" must be in the operating system not in the type of computer.

I don't have Vista or any Talonsoft BG game so my assistance is only theoretical. :)
