Let's not forget how annoying it was having to change discs with the original CS, convert from 1.02 to 1.03 (EF) and to 1.05 (WF), and buy new discs for add-ons. I have 10 CS discs!!
Now we can play EF, WF or RS without loading a disc ! That's a major improvement.
Let's not split our small group of devotees any further.
Already we have many using the original Matrix 2.0 version (for EF,WF and RS) and a presumably large number who have upgraded to 1.04.
LET'S NOT SPLIT OURSELVES ANY FURTHER !!

We have devoted developers punching out great new scenarios in 1.04 and the time will surely come when the excellent scenarios from the #PB1 disc will be adapted to 1.04. Surely that's enough until there is a need for a major change?
I for one am totally opposed to making 1.05 with picky changes to add fancy units Much later when the time comes to make another giant leap forward to maintain JTCS as the hottest strategy game a new upgrade may be needed. I am happy to leave it to Jason and the team to decide.
Well said Pip! :)
Pip:

Though I do agree that "keeping up with the Jones'" is sometimes a pain there are different levels of enhancement.

1) Those that do not require both players to be using the exact same version. These would be sub releases numbered in the form 1.05.1 and as long as your major release number (the 1.05 part) was the same as you opponent you would be good to go.
[examples: having the 2-1/2D rendering engine deal with slope increments greater than 3, remembering base toggle and thermometer settings from session to session, etc.]
2) Those that do not require a player to upgrade unless they want to play a new scenario.
[examples: OOB additions (rather than updates, see 3. below), new scenarios]
3) Those that require a general upgrade. Requires a new major revision number (e.g. 1.06)
[examples: Game play feature updates/changes such as new assault rules, new units capabilities, changes to an existing OOB]

So perhaps some work can be done to enhance the product for those that want to upgrade without forcing everyone to do so.

Thanks Umbro for your technical reply but I repeat my heartfelt original request.

[/u]Please leave 1.04 alone for developers to add to and players to enjoy

We are already split into 2 incompatible versions of Matrix:-
Matrix 2 (the original) for those who cannot or do not want to load 1.04
Matrix 1.04 with major additions and improvements but a huge download

Let's not go back to the bad old days which I described in my first post on this subject !.
I'm not against progress which must come but as Jason and his colleagues have breathed fresh life into our great 11 year old game let's not split it up and kill it again!!

Don't get me wrong Pip, I am behind you all the way with this sentiment. I was hoping to lay out some paths to achieve it. However, as Jason pointed out to me, the dev group is simply not large enough (nor well paid enough) to manage the type of development that I suggested.

Actually we are in three groups?
1)Those who want to play version 1.04 without extreme assault or variable visibility. Basicly, version 1.02 with hidden and new units?
2)Those who want to play version 1.04 with extreme assault and/or not with variable visibility.
3)Those who want to play with a changed assault rule that was less drastic as the one released in version 1.04. Those who believe that a 25% lucky die roll by the game engine can make heroes out of truck drivers and that a handfull of disrupted, out of supply, soldiers hold out against the might of armies because they are in a building.
Those that believe that something "in between" would have been better overall, simply by not having the choice between the two? Just being the one available. :chin:

And, maybe a fourth group of those who cannot afford to purchase the new 1.04 (or do not want to purchase it) who are willing to find opponents who play the Matrix-CS original release? Eek

I'm honestly not about a small group of developers trying to change the game, or give us a new game, that (in your words) may not be one that all players can "enjoy".
And, it seems that all players still interested in the current game were ones who played the old version over many years? That fact was/is the foundation of many of my opinions since the version 1.03 changes to the game engine? :smoke:
The fracture is here. The repair awaits.
I play both opponents who wish to play using version 1.04 with extreme assault or those who want version 1.04 without it. Personally, I will not play either style with variable visibility turned on. But, that is just me.

cheers

Ed
I believe that making "Extreme assault" and "Variable visibility" an option is a step into right direction. I hope that any new change in the future will be kept in the same way. As I have pointed out long time ago, in case of one of the early discussions going here, I have nothing against changes as long as they are not mandatory. Moreover, I said that in the old Battleground Series the Options were much, much larger (at least 8 check-boxes as I remember).

I don't know to which group do I belong... :chin: and I don't care :smoke:
I still play old TS version with some members. And I feel good about it!

I really appreciate the effort Jason is putting in the game developing

Best regards

Slawek
Hi Valor!
I'd like that last game turn, so we can finish and move on to the next scenario. Regardless of which version we play. :smoke:

cheers
