Ok my after action.

1.I think the germans had an advantage to get into the town faster, less turns and height advantage from the rear areas. I could bring down Arty into the town without leaving my setup areas.

B.In any game I play i figure which flags i can get to before he can and of the ones i can't i try and setp up some heavy ARTY with a LOS to the Flag. If the game is tight i will hold fire till the very end and try to drop everything i have left on that flag in the hopes that i can disrupt any garrison their and therby neutrolize it.

2. I really never had any intentions to move my P70's into the town. i
wanted to isolate the town blocks with setting up tank and MG fire
down the roads and limits lateral rienforcing by the Russians.
Basically i would be gaurding the flanks of my main force and fight
a local battle that i outnumber the enemy. (that's my theory)
and in theory anything works, it's in the practical that it goes to
sh**.

But as always got caught in the heat of the moment send my armor forward. which is very stupid since at very close range their amor is far from invincible.

3. NEWS FLASH From the stupid German commander. Guys Just now afetr reading this thread did i realize that i had Russians in my rear.:hissy:

I was suffering from target fixation and i didn't even bother to look at my rear...very , very sloppy of me. I even called my wife to see and she just walked away shaking her head and she has no clue or interest in the game.

To answer a question or a comment about why me and Vic place our men in single file even though the road will hold side by side. Can't speak for Vic, but i think traffic control goes from what is normally bad to horrendous. It will take much longer to detangle the jam if you send them forward side by side. imagine a traffic fur ball and then two T34's make the turn just as it happend. I was lucky that the T34's targeted my P70. I personally would have targeted the Last HT
(the one just in front of the P70) with bothe 34's in hopes that it would burn (blocking LOS). Then i can shoot to pieces the rest of the column while the P70 get orders and try to negotiate the jam. In the end i think i just had more situational luck.

You really can't feel bad about that because Herroberst got first choice of which side he wanted to be. And actually, by turning his one T34 the way he did down the central street he got the first riding squad to the flag - he just didn't have enough to hold it. If he would have brought all six T34s up that street loaded with riders and run them all to the central flag it might have been a different story. But hindsight is 20/20.

You did get a sweet spot for your artillery, but the way Herroberst's spotters were placed I think it was his intention from the beginning to bring that artillery out at the end and stomp whatever Germans were left downtown. (I'll have to let him speak for that.)
Kel

your probably correct then on the fastest with the mostest, but i just feel that having my FO ready from the go is a definite advantage.
But i admit i have not looked from his side if the same LOS is available.

I know there was at least one good spot over there because I played on that map before and my opponent put an AT gun there and it was a bear to knock out. lol...
I think I am crawling out of the grave of retirement for some simulated combat.Whip

One thing about that map...
Way too many walls!

Being that CM's Ai is so completely lame in its handling of walls it would be best to avoid having them (if possible)

Has anyone out there ever gotten a MAC (running windows) to run CMBB ?

Cheers and happy thanksgivingcheers

Got 'em for you GR - welcome back! I see you can get Combat Mission made for MAC like here:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Combat-Mission-Barba...efid=store

But then I don't know if the PBEM files would work exchanging with a PC user.

First of all, thanks to DK for setting up and commenting this match of masters. This was very interesting read.

I must say thanks to Herroberst for showing a beginner how to use artillery. A few barrages in the beginning to mess up the enemys schedule at the merge. And the plan for the final blow with two simultaneous artillery strikes after the front line was formed. It was pure bad luck that the second FO was killed before the "nuclear strike" landed. War is hell.

But what counts in the end is victory and that one goes to Walkyre. Cheers! You make it look so effortless.

I must question a couple of things though:

1) Walkyre's decision to bring turretless tanks to a city fight? I say again that I'm a beginner and I don't know by heart every tanks HE load and penetration power, if that was a factor.

2) Herroberst's reasoning on the flanking "super squad"? It was certainly out-of-the-box, but was it too-little-too-late?

As he said, his original intent WASN'T to get them into town, but to stand them off and use them on fixed LOS down streets. That way the lack of turrent wouldn't have been, (much of), an issue. As soon as they entered the town proper though then yes they are at a dis-advantage.

Oh, I forgot about that. Thanks. I just still wonder are the turreted German tanks of that time so much worse that Jpz was a much better choice, even if it means that you have to stay further away from the front?
