This thread is for helping people out who are having trouble getting CM to work in Windows Vista. Anything you can post here that would help would be appreciated.

I still use Windows XP, but here are a couple of quotes from another thread to get things started:

"You can use a hex editor on your Combat Mission Executables and change the file extension that CM puts on the file.
I have done this for All three versions and it works like a charm.
The game does not care what the file extension is when opening your turns for play. Feel free to email me if you try it and have any questions.

Anyone else that knows some hints or finds a tip please post it here so we can help keep this great game going. We'd hate to lose players just because they can't get the game to work.

I loaded both cmbb and cmak on vista without turning off any security features. You must load it as an old program. Read the help guide to do this (too involved for a short post) When I initially loaded cmbb, I made the mistake of loading it in the program files (don't do it). Create a folder in the hard drive, example c/folder name. When you load the game ensure that is where it goes. If you did load the file in the program files, simply create the new folder then move it from program files to the folder. Originally I could play cmbb when it was in program files, but could not use the pbem feature, I also had no safe way of deleting the program from it's original location

This is the video driver that I am using with Vista and my ATI2600 graphics card.

The only issues I had was the save game files getting put into a 'virtual folder'. This is easily rectified by disabling UAC controls which to be honest after a while just prove a pain anyway.

Also if CM fails to install try leaving it in the drive for a while. I have known people who say it took 20 minutes for the Computer to actually read the disk and start the install process.

Another thing to try if you find CM isnt installing is to write click on the .exe file and select run as admin.

Still working on getting my CMBB to run. Well, after downloading the latest drivers from Nvidia, it actually does run without any weird graphic effects (map edges "spinning around").

But there is still a big problem - the game runs extraordinarily slow. There is a delay between the mouse clicks/commands and the action which makes it almost unplayable. Is there any way of speeding things up? I've tried loading it as XP compatible (game runs perfectly fine on my XP laptop) but it didn't work.

I'm using Windows Vista, 64-bit version, with Nvidia Geforce 8600GT and plenty of processor speed and memory.

Could there be a older video drive4r that might work? Like with my ATI card.

I recently built a new computer and installed Vista Home Premium(32bit). The system is an Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @2.4GHz with 4GB RAM and the GeForce 8400 GS card with 256K. This video card had worked fine for all four Combat Mission games in my previous computer under Windows XP. However, on initial load of Vista, CMSF and CMBO worked great but CMBB and CMAK had cascading video in the background and were painfully jerky and slow. I read the numerous posts about Vista and NVidia and resigned myself to tweaking the NVidia Control Panel settings.

Eureka! Setting the Antiailasing mode to "Override any application setting" eliminated the adverse video effects! The two games are still somewhat slow and jerky so I continue to monkey with Anisotropic Filtering, Antialiasing-Gamma Correction, Antialiasing settings between 2x and 16x, and Antialiasing-Transparancy settings.

Chaps, I'm 60 and not the computer genius my son is. I want to live until at least 80, but if I can't have all FOUR Battlefront games what's the point?

Can anyone help?

Now my son who is paid lots of UK £s sterling says the easiest way to get around this is to load a "Virtual Computer" into my Dell laptop.

I tried the above with my new Vista computer and Nvidia 9400 GT card and CMBB works now but it is still not as smoothly as with XP.

I think I just got CMAK to work in windows vista!

I have Windows Vista Home Premium Edition with an NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT video card.

I installed CMAK directly on my C:\ drive instead of c:\program files as it suggests.

I then opened my NVIDIA Control Panel and made custom settings for cm africa corps.exe.

The only setting I changed from default was that I set vertical sync to "Force off."

That was all - the game now works -including smoke effects, etc.
