Cross Sounds 0.8 - Sound mod for SPWW2 & SPMBT

EDIT: Cross Sounds 1.0 was released in NOV 2008
You can find links to download 1.0 and read more here:

This mod will not effect any OOB files, and can be installed mid-game with no PBEM or security problems.

Cross sounds changes many of the original sounds, with the goal of improving their realism and quality.

Cross Sounds 0.8 replaces 78% or 118 of the original 152 sounds.

0.8 also improves on many of the 0.7 sounds.

New in 0.8

• Cannon sounds have been reworked
• Aircraft sounds have been reworked
• Some new explosions, including tank brew-up sound
• New infantry movement sound
• New motorcycle sound
• New cavalry sound
• New ricochet sounds
• Some new MG sounds
• Adjusted the volume of some sounds
• Background noise (white noise) removed in many sounds

SPMBT

MBT gives you the option to use WAV or MP3. WAV is usually the default, but may depend when you first installed MBT.
If you use WAV then you can also install this mod to your MBT sounds folder, because MBT uses the same SPWW2 sound map.

Downloads

If you already have Cross Sounds 0.7, you only have to download the 20MB rar file (34MB when unzipped) to update to 0.8

To install the full Cross Sounds 0.8, you will need to download the 30MB rar file (53MB when unzipped)

Nice work. Any thoughts on doing a separate MBT version?

Thanks. That's an interesting idea, but I'm not sure there would be many differences. Did you have any specific changes in mind?

Currently, as you're probably aware, the stock sounds for SPWW2 and SPMBT are almost identical.

Though many of the MBT sounds are slightly better quality, even though they are the exact same sound. Don't know why the SPCAMO guys have not corrected that imbalance? Anyway, Cross Sounds does correct it by also installing the better sounds to WW2.
Therefore, a separate MBT download could be smaller, because it wouldn't have to include these 'upgrade' sounds.

If I were to create a separate mod for MBT, there are a couple of sounds that could be different. I guess vehicle sounds - like tanks - could be made to sound a little more modern (keeping in mind MBT spans a period of some 74 years).

I use a WW2 era motorcycle sound for this mod; this could be changed to something more contemporary.

CLICK on these to hear sounds:

1.
Original WW2 motorbike

2.
Original MBT motorbike
(same but with less hiss/background noise)

3.
Cross Sounds motorbike

4.
Possible MBT motorbike Big Grin
One sound I intended to update in 0.8 was the horse and cart. But it was overlooked, so will have to wait for 0.9

If you want to download and install it separately you can. But right click on the following link and "SAVE TARGET AS" Then you will get the quality WAV file not just the quick link MP3.

RIGHT CLICK HERE and SAVE TARGET AS... 222.wav

The just make sure it's named '222.wav' and paste it into your 'Sounds' folder, and you'll have a cool sounding horse and cart :cool2:

cheers,
Cross
Perfectly, that we have a master improving a sound in STEEL PANTHERS !
cheers
Cross Sounds is compressed as a RAR for download. Apparantly some people don't use RAR files. You can download WinRAR for free, it's supposedly a trial but it's never ending and you just right click to compress/uncompress, here:

http://rarlab.com/

Or,
here is Cross Sounds 0.8 as a ZIP file. It's 44MB instead of 30MB for the RAR:

Cross Sounds 0.8 ZIP CLICK HERE

Hope this helps

If you don't like the idea of a never-ending trial, 7-Zip is an open-source alternative to unpacking RAR files that is also free. You can get it at:
